Love like Jesus!

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 teaches,“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”

From friendships to family members to coworkers, relationships can be challenging to navigate. But if there’s one thing that can set our relationships apart, it’s understanding real love.

In Paul’s first letter to believers in Corinth, he explains that even if you have faith, all the knowledge, or all the generosity in the world, none of it means anything without love.
Sometimes it’s hard being human. But God knows that and wants to help us.

In the same letter Paul goes on to say that love keeps no record of wrongs and rejoices in the truth. It always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres. Most notably, love never fails.

To God Be The Glory for Jesus! He offered Himself as the ultimate sacrifice for the redemption of the world. And that’s what real love looks like! John 15:13 reminds us, “to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” He is love, and His love never fails! God has given us everything we need to love others the way He has loved us.

On Thursday, December 11th, members of the Parent Body Missionaries journeyed to the Lexington Rescue Mission to share Christmas blessings with the mission clients by distributing bags with gloves, socks, hats, and candy. Approximately 175 clients were served. Sister Delores Spencer assisted in serving lunch to the clients of the Mission. All of the recipients were very appreciative and wished the missionaries Merry Christmas and God Bless You! 

Sisters  Gloria Conner, Alyce Emerson, Patricia Hayden, Nancy Holmes, Thelma White,  Sarah Speed, Delores Spencer and Brother Tony Constant represented HPGMBC at the Rescue Mission. Sisters Nancy Holmes and Delores Spencer coordinated this community service effort.

Current Focus: Strengthening my faith and growing spiritually. Since the summer, I’ve been on a journey
to heal inner childhood wounds. I’ve made it a priority to self-reflect. I’ve also committed to growing a deeper connection with GOD by reading my Bible, living by GOD’s WORD and walking in the light as CHRIST would have us to do!

Breaking generational trauma in my family and advancing my career are additional areas of focus.

Career: GOD has given me the opportunity to partner with Fayette County Public Schools. I am creating a Masterclass that teaches students coping strategies to regulate their emotions! This class lets me use my training and professional experiences. I am a licensed clinical therapist. I have a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of
Kentucky. I have a total of 20 years of professional experience in the field! My resume says I am
qualified for this partnership, but I know GOD did it. GOD opens doors!

Why this Career?: GOD has blessed me to have the gift of discernment. At a young age, I always was
observant and wise ---- probably because my grandmother played a big part in raising me! Discernment means having the ability to see clearly, judge wisely, and make good decisions when the situation is confusing. These are useful skills to have as a therapist. In my primary years I endured trauma which increased my awareness of people’s behaviors. That awareness continued throughout my life. It sparked my curiosity for learning, “Why do people behave the way they do?” I was inspired to study human behavior -- better known as Psychology!

What do you want your church family to know about you?: I love to sing and enjoy listening to Mahalia
Jackson, Inez Andrews and Aretha Franklin. I actually saw Aretha Franklin in person! I sat one row
behind her at a NBA Detroit Pistons game.

Is there anything special your church can do for you?: Continue to be my “safe place” where I can see familiar smiling faces and receive warm hugs weekly!

What do you want your church family to know about GOD?: And I quote the lyrics to an old hymn…. “God is real, he’s real in my soul, real in my soul, yes He has washed and made me whole, His love for me, is like pure gold, Yes God is real for I can feel him in my soul”

FLU

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.

Flu shots are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding a flu vaccination.

RSV

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms. In older adults and adults with certain underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections.

COVID-19

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.

The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.
