Lucy's Personal Update:

Greetings everyone! This week has been jam-packed with both personal and work stuff. This is a short summary:

  • Wedding plans are well underway! There are 5 weddings among friends and family happening in the next six months, and "Mr Lucy" and I are the third. It's a super hectic time, but it's the fun kind of stress. 😉
  • For the third year in a row, I'm an assistant formatter for the Foundations Revealed annual competition - this means I take the 2020 competition entries and create webpages for each one, resizing photos and making sure all the links work - it's a super fun side job because I get a sneaky peek at all the beautiful creations (the downside is that I can't vote, but if you're part of the FR community, make sure you do vote for your favorite this year!) Do you want to be part of Foundations Revealed? You can join during the next Open Cart (feel free to use my affiliate link)
  • I'm working on some outlines for new videos. A few days ago I received the Waisted Creations Modern Corset Making Guide by Lucy Emke, and I'm currently reading through it. It's a beautifully made full-color book with super easy-to-understand instructions. Normally for any corset making book or course, I would actually make a corset using their techniques and instructions, but unfortunately I won't have the time to sew in the next couple of months - but I'm excited to give you a preview and first thoughts of Lucy's book this week!

Extended sizes are here! 16" up to 42" in select corset styles (with more to come)

In previous newsletters I hinted that we will be expanding our sizes soon, and that day has come! My exclusive designs, Gemini and Libra corsets, are now available in teeny size 16" up to 38".

And so far, the best sellers in the hourglass corsets are available up to size 42". See the plus size selection here. As time goes on we will be rolling out extended sizes for ALL the TT cuts now that all TT corsets are made to order - but if you're too excited to wait for the "administrative updates" (i.e. just updating every listing with the extended sizes, one by one), you're welcome to simply hit "reply" and let me know if you want to make a special order, and we can set that up manually for you!

If you'd like to see ALL brands I carry, see the selection here.

And of course, if you would like me to recommend a style that fits you best, remember that I have a free fitting service here too.

What else is new?
Making a Chatelaine Belt

Sarah Chrisman, the author of Victorian Secrets, has a Youtube channel where she recently showed off the nifty chatelaine belt where she hangs her purse and all sorts of things. The chatelaine was like the original "Swiss Army Knife", and the chatelaine belt is kind of like the first belt back, harness bag or fannypack.

As Roger K had mentioned in the past, a corset is perfectly designed to distribute the weight (of skirts, pockets, bags, and any other heavy item) so with a belt like this, your hands and shoulders are free of the weight of a heavy purse.

See how the belt was made, or if you feel so inclined, purchase your own handmade chatelaine belt on Sarah and Gabriel's website here!

Want to see what's on my chatelaine?

A throwback to 2011 when I scoured (a relatively sparse) eBay for antique trinkets and made my own chatelaine with a brooch and old chains!

In this video I explain some history about the chatelaine, plus how I put mine together and what I chose to include.

Warning: both the video quality and the chatelaine itself are *rough* (I was not a pro videographer nor a pro metal worker) but it was a fun little project at the time nonetheless!
