Within the Industry 4.0 new paradigm, new powerful technologies are already being deployed towards smart factories revolution. The driving forces of Industry 4.0, namely Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques and especially Machine Learning (ML) ones, are continuously evolving, finding numerous applications in modern businesses and organizations.

The webinars aim to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and commercial experts with key stakeholders, such as utilities, energy providers & distributors, governmental and non-governmental organization. The parties will exchange their experiences and knowledge on all aspects of Industry 4.0 aspects in energy systems, present and discuss the most recent innovations, applications, trends, as well as concerns and practical challenges encountered. Moreover, during the webinar relevant EU and GCC policies, best practices and case studies will be highlighted while opportunities for EU GCC partnerships will be discussed.

Webinar: The opportunity of clean energy trade across the Mediterranean

Frank Wouters, Network Director is invited to participate at the webinar “The opportunity of clean energy trade across the Mediterranean” scheduled to take place on Wednesday 22 April 2020 at 15.00 CET. The webinar will:

  • Consider what the EU Green Deal and the Industrial Strategy, and associated initiatives such as the 2030 Target Climate Plan, mean for the Mediterranean;
  • Analyse the benefits of green energy trade between Europe and North Africa, particularly in view of Europe’s aim to be carbon neutral by 2050;
  • Hear about the vectors of integration such as electricity & green gases – such as hydrogen and ammonia – and how these projects can lead to economic and hence political stability, coming from trade across The Mediterranean.

The Network at the World Hydrogen Fuels Summit
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 10-11 March 2020

The World Hydrogen Fuels Summit took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 10-11 March 2020. The two-day event provided a practical approach to infrastructure, developing international integrated hydrogen supply chains, covering everything from hydrogen production to storage, transportation, and use. The overarching theme for 2020 emphasised the effort for international collaboration showcasing the world’s most promising projects and global solutions.

Paul van Son, President & CEO Dii Desert Energy, delivered the presentation “The potential for Hydrogen and Hydrogen Fuels in the Middle East and the Gulf” on behalf of Frank Wouters.

The Network at the Enhancing Market Stability and Security Workshop
Riyadh, KSA, 5 March 2020

The workshop “Enhancing Market Stability and Security”, organised by the Ministry of Energy of KSA and the G20 Saudi Secretariat for the Presidency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 15th meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20) is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 5 March 2020. This was a pivotal event that immediately preceded the first of three Energy Sustainability Working Group meetings leading up to the G20 Leader’s Summit this November 2020 and consisted of a series of dialogues led by International Organizations examining various challenges and potential solutions in providing universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy infrastructure. The audience included members of G20 Nations and invited countries’ delegations, International Organizations, and participants from the global private sector community.
Dr Mustapha Taoumi, Network’s Clean Energy Technology Key Expert, was invited to attend this high-level meeting in KSA.

The Network at the 2nd Annual Sustainable Governmental Housing International Conference
Dubai, UAE 4-5 March 2020

The 2nd Annual International Sustainable Governmental Housing Conference took place in Dubai, UAE on 4-5 March 2020.  This international conference and exhibition was in line with the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda that focuses on improving the quality of air, preserving water resources, increasing the contribution of clean energy and implementing green growth plans. The event highlighted the sustainable housing aspects, SMART Cities, Innovation in Design & Sustainability, New Methods & Technologies and Innovation in Procurement, Operations & Maintenance.
Dr Mustapha Taoumi, Network’s Clean Energy Technology Key Expert presented the topic “Sustainable Housing in the context of the European Green Deal”.

The Network at the Intersolar Middle East
Dubai, UAE 3-5 March 2020

Middle East Energy (MEE), Intersolar and ees joined hands to co-deliver a renewables and energy storage event at Middle East Energy 2020 that took place on 3-5 March 2020 in Dubai, UAE.

The Network was invited to participate at the 2-day conference which aimed to provide concentrated insights into the transformative dynamics of renewable energies around the world, emphasising on how various technologies can produce synergies and, in turn, create an integrated energy system.

Specifically on March 3rd, Nick Carter, Network’s Convener on Electricity Interconnections, participated at the Expert Panel “Identifying Market Leaders and Trends by Segments - Seeing Tomorrow's Market Today”. The focus of the session was the market viability and scalability of solar plants in the region, the innovative PV applications with the potential to transform industrial and the commercial buildings into small-scale solar power plants.

On March 4th, Dr Mustapha Taoumi presented at the Innovations Ahead - Disruptive Technologies, Hybrid Systems and Smart Grid Solutions session. The aim of the session was to analyse how reliable power grid infrastructure can be ensured throughout the energy transition and the ways in which technologies such as flexible demand-side response can help to create an energy system fit to face future challenges.

The Green Hydrogen for a European Green Deal A 2x40 GW Initiative publication authored by Prof. Dr. Ad van Wijk and Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, is now available and can be downloaded here.

This publication is initiated by ‘Hydrogen Europe’ and endorsed by ‘African Hydrogen Partnership Initiative’, ‘Ukrainian Hydrogen Council’, ‘Dii Desert Energy’ and ‘EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network’.
