Marie Armstrong Scholarship Auction
Marie Armstrong, long time stalwart of Newtown's New Theatre who was well known to many folkies as a result of her involvement in numerous productions of the musical 'Reedy River', passed away late last year. She left her modest estate for the establishment of a scholarship for Indigenous Students (Arts/Women). You are invited to contribute by bidding at the online auction for a 'Memento More' of the diverse objects that Marie collected and cherished over her long life.

A unique musical perspective on Australian history - Aboriginal fast bowler Eddie Gilbert, doughty St Patrick Day's protesters confronting police batons in Brisbane in 1948, Ronald Ryan, the last hanged man in Australia. Mitch Grainger - 8pm
Returning to Leichhardt Bowlo after his sell-out February show! World-renowned blues harmonica-player, guitarist, & Australian roots-music troubadour, Mitch Grainger, now based in Nashville, Tennessee, has returned home to catch up with family & friends, & Australian fans. Mitch started out on the local Sydney blues scene at age 14 with fellow Balmain boys, Alex Lloyd & Declan Kelly, in The Beefs. He then joined the Bondi Cigars, before forming his own band, Papa Lips, in 1994, with Declan Kelly, Clayton Doley, Rowan Lane, & his sister, Kara Grainger.

Kara Grainger Band - 8pm

After a brief visit last December, Balmain-born, Nashville-based, Blues singer-songwriter-guitarist, Kara Grainger, was invited back here to perform at Bluesfest over Easter.
Kara started her music career in 1994 with her brother Mitch Grainger & keyboard master, Clayton Doley, in Papa Lips. Since then she's toured successfully in the USA, UK, Europe, India, Japan, & Indonesia, and has shared stages with the likes of Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Peter Frampton, Jonny Lang, & Marc Cohn. She is known for her groove-rooted sound and mean slide guitar. Combining tasteful Blues, soulful vocals and a heartfelt approach to songwriting, Kara's unique sound is uplifting and inspiring.

The Foreday Riders - 8pm
Returning to Leichhardt Bowlo, after three sell-out shows last year! The 'Riders' are true legends of Australian Blues, this year being their 54th year together as a band. And they are as good as ever! Led by brothers Ron & Jeff King, the Riders are often referred to as “The University Of The Blues”, because of the number of Blues-players who have spent some time in the band & then moved on to become established performers in their own right.
