Hello Caregiver Friend,
Did you know that November is National Caregivers Month. It's still November, so be sure to thank a Caregiver it's gone.
Here we are in the midst of the holiday season. Are you exhausted yet? Me too! But not as much as I used to be. Here's why.
Since becoming a family caregiver, I've learned that self-care is not selfish. It's necessary. I know it sounds corny, but it's so true.
I want you to enjoy the holiday season and that's why I'm sharing these 11 tips to help you do just that. I know you're busy, so let's get right to it!
11 tips to get you through holidays with a smile.
- You can start your day with a smile.
- Take the first 5-10 minutes of the day doing something for you (stretch, pray, enjoy one uninterrupted cup of coffee)
- When planning your holiday meals, order what's too complicated to cook/bake or takes a lot of ingredients you'll have to shop for.
- Make your holiday gathering a potluck, and look forward to other family members' unique dishes.
- You can get your nails done with a Christmas theme.
- Try to work in a 30-minute walk, bike ride, or some other form of exercise at least three times a week.
- Try to get eight hours of sleep every night. If you start adjusting your bedtime routine now, you'll be up to 8 hrs. in no time.
- Turn your phone notifications off.
- If it's your turn to host this year, start cleaning now. Maintenance is so much easier than starting from scratch.
- Wrap as you buy. This will defuse any anxiety related to last-minute activities.
- BONUS -- Pray for a calm spirit and trust God to provide.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
