International Programs Updates

2024 promises to be another year filled with transformation and adventure abroad for Harding students, faculty and alumni.

Please check back next month to read more about the programs taking place this semester at HUG, HUF and HULA, as well as the Honors College's time in Greece during the Christmas break.

Harding University in Florence

Robbie and Mona Shackelford will retire this summer, after dedicating decades of their lives to the HUF program. As we prepare to honor their years of service, we invite you to mail letters and cards expressing your appreciation to our office in Searcy:

International Programs is pleased to announce the hire of Aleece Kelley as the new director of the HUF program. Aleece is a 2012 graduate of Harding University. Immediately following graduation, she accepted a position with Harding’s International Programs office where she worked until moving to Italy in late 2016. In Italy, she has served alongside her husband, Zachary, with the Avanti Italia ministry. Together, they have two daughters. In her free time, you’ll find Aleece chatting with the Avanti Italia cook Rosa, reading, or enjoying one of Zachary’s homemade treats with their girls.

In addition to her work in the community with Avanti Italia, Aleece has hosted many Harding students and faculty during summer study abroad programs and has enjoyed collaborating with many of Harding's International Programs in Europe. Aleece is thrilled to be returning fulltime to the field of study abroad and is looking forward to using her existing connections to build bridges and increase cultural awareness between Harding students and the greater Scandicci community.

Arkansas Challenge Scholarship

Beginning in Summer 2024, recipients of the Arkansas Challenge and Arkansas Governor's Distinguished Scholarships are eligible to use one semester of their eligibility for full-time enrollment during the summer term. This is a wonderful opportunity for Arkansas students enrolled in academic programs that better align with a summer study abroad option.

HUG goes to the Olympics!

The summer HUG program will conclude in Paris this summer, and include a ticket to one Olympic event. Spend your summer in the birthplace of the Olympics, celebrating the past and present with your fellow Harding students in Greece! Please complete the application here to claim one of the last few spots available in the program.

Dr. Shackelford's vision of encouraging students to travel and learn about different cultures is truly inspiring and has made a significant impact on the lives of many. With your help, we can continue to offer life-changing study abroad experiences to students who may not have the financial means to do so. Your donation can help make this dream a reality for more students and enable them to grow both academically and spiritually while exploring the world. Please consider giving to the Shackelford Family Scholarship Fund for International Programs during Harding's Gather to Give event on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024.
