We are pleased to share updates from P@SHA's engagements and initiatives in February. The Pakistan Pavilion at Web Summit Qatar 2024 was inaugurated with enthusiasm, highlighting the country's tech achievements. The HBL P@SHA CXO Meetup in Lahore for Spring 2024 was a success, fostering discussions about Pakistan's tech industry. The 3rd P@SHA Townhall featured Dr. Umar Saif, focusing on the future of tech. P@SHA also participated in the Inter Ministerial Meeting on Pak-GCC FTA and engaged with PTA on VPN Ban, advocating for technical solutions. Additionally, P@SHA participated in a Private Sector Roundtable Forum and the Skills Committee's activities, contributing to youth skills development programs.
As part of our Brand & Global Outreach Committee efforts, we are excited to announce upcoming delegations to Dublin, Ireland, and Morocco, Africa. These delegations present excellent opportunities to showcase Pakistan's tech prowess on a global stage. Web Summit Qatar 2024
At Web Summit Qatar 2024, the Pakistan Pavilion was inaugurated with great enthusiasm. Ambassador Muhammad Aejaz, along with Chairman P@SHA Muhammad Zohaib Khan, led the ceremony, highlighting Pakistan's tech achievements. The event was attended by Secretary-General P@SHA Nadeem A. Malik and a diverse group of Pakistani IT companies, showcasing the country's innovation potential.
The Pakistan Pavilion was bustling with activity, as Ambassador Muhammad Aejaz, Chairman P@SHA Muhammad Zohaib Khan, and Secretary-General P@SHA Nadeem A. Malik engaged with the community of Pakistan's IT industry. Their presence showcased Pakistan's innovation and technological prowess, shaping a promising future in the global tech landscape.
This occasion was supported by the Pakistan Embassy in Qatar, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SIFC, and MoITT. Together, they facilitated Pakistan's participation, highlighting its innovation potential and tech excellence on a global scale.

HBL P@SHA CXO Meetup Lahore
On 22 Feb, P@SHA hosted the first Lahore HBL P@SHA CXO Meetup for Spring 2024, supported by Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd., ITCN Asia, HBL - Habib Bank Limited, Excellence Delivered (ExD) Pvt Ltd, Digital Dastak, Peak Solutions , Cloudpacer, and Daftarkhwan. The event was a resounding success, with attendees participating in lively discussions about the technology industry in Pakistan and its substantial contribution to the economy. The meetup concluded with a delightful dinner and Qawali, adding a cultural touch to the evening.

Inter Ministerial Meeting on Pak-GCC FTA
On February 20th, Mr. Khurram Rahat, Vice Chairman of P@SHA, accompanied by Ms. Laraib Farhat, Policy Manager, and Mr. Gulraiz Iqbal, Policy Associate, participated in the Inter-Ministerial Meeting on the Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreement commenced by the Ministry of Commerce. The meeting aimed to discuss the vetted text of the FTA provided by the GCC Secretariat. P@SHA has been actively engaged in the ongoing discussions concerning the PAK-GCC FTA. Additionally, it was agreed upon during the meeting to establish a joint committee to address matters related to fraud and malpractice. P@SHA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, will be part of this joint committee.

Prime Minister’s Office
A consultative meeting between industry leaders and the PM office was held on February 20th, focusing on devising priorities for the IT sector. Discussions emphasized addressing challenges such as frequent internet outages and promoting healthy competition. Expanding IT exports was highlighted, along with concerns over current regulations impacting investment. Disparities between freelancers and companies were noted, urging for regulatory streamlining. Key priorities include, incentivizing foreign investment, policy consistency, and amending regulations like PPRA rules for IT projects. Boosting domestic market size and government expenditure are crucial for enhancing export capacity.

Young Researchers Convention
On February 21, Kashif Hussain, Research Lead, represented P@SHA at the Young Researchers’ Convention arranged by the Center for Strategic and Contemporary Research in Islamabad. The conference was aimed at enhancing young researchers’ skills and craft out innovative approaches to redefining Pakistan’s perspective on national interests. A range of suggestions were laid out by our research lead including how technology plays a pivotal role in achieving Pakistan its key interests.

Engagement with PTA on VPN Ban
On February 26th, P@SHA and PTA convened a crucial meeting attended by CEC members Mohsin Ali, Dr. Shoab Khan, Policy Manager Laraib Farhat, and Policy Associate Gulraiz Iqbal from P@SHA, alongside Vice President Strategic Affairs Contour Software, Hira Zainab and Technical Director Server4Sale Munaf Majeed representing the industry. Discussions centered on optimizing internet services through IP Address and VPN Whitelisting. P@SHA highlighted the urgency of prioritizing maximum IP addresses and VPN whitelisting, proposing the compilation of commonly used VPNs and the establishment of a joint working group for technical solutions. Considerations included maintaining open VPN access, addressing IP stability, and assessing potential financial impacts on the banking sector. Recommendations were made to strengthen internet access security.

Private Sector Roundtable Forum; Promoting ICT Sector in KP USAID-ERDA in collaboration with NIC Peshawar
On February 28th, 2024, Ms. Laraib Farhat, Policy Manager at P@SHA, participated in a Policy Consultation session organized by USAID-ERDA and NIC Peshawar. Discussions centered on USAID-ERDA's support for enhancing the competitiveness of ICT enterprises and startups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including technical training for youth and initiatives to improve the business environment. P@SHA provided feedback on challenges in KP's business registration and taxation processes, and stressed the need for synergetic efforts among stakeholders to drive ICT sector growth in the region.

At the IT and ITes Award 2024 Ceremony, Chairman Muhammad Zohaib Khan and Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Dr. Umar Saif, honored industry achievements. Tech Destination Awards were presented to Dr. Umar Saif and Ayesha Morani by Chairman Muhammad Zohaib Khan and Secretary General Nadeem A. Malik. The evening was filled with recognition, inspiration, and celebration of innovation and excellence within the IT and ITes sectors.

P@SHA Chairman Meeting with NAVTTC Chairperson
On 22nd Feb, Chairman P@SHA, Muhammad Zohaib Khan, met with NAVTTC Chairperson, Ms. Gulmina Bilal, at the P@SHA regional office in Karachi. The discussion centered around P@SHA's identified demand-driven IT skills, emphasizing the importance of quality training over quantity. The focus is on finding the best master training program for existing trainers, along with world-class course materials and certifications to meet our current needs.

Aleem Abbas And S. Safa Hassany from P@SHA Skills Development and Training Team attended the second Steering Committee Meeting for Youth Development Program 2023-24. The meeting focused on the execution of:

Introduction of Trainings at FDE colleges
Decisions regarding TEVTAs
Launch of the new training batch
P@SHA’s input was highly valued and the committee requested future close collaboration with P@SHA’s Skills Development Team.
As a Follow up to this, a Meeting was scheduled between the new Chairperson NAVTTC Gulmina and Chairman P@SHA.

P@SHA and PSEB Launch the Co-Opt Program Portal
P@SHA and PSEB have jointly made a portal to connect the IT industry with the passing candidates from CoOpt Program. In the first phase all students have been onboarded along with the 500 companies from PSEB’s Cash Reward program. The overall industry will sign up in the coming month.
