Dear St. Andrew's Community and Friends:
On this hot, Labor Day weekend you will discover that we filmed this service in the sanctuary. Scott, Judith and I figured out how we could do this while following the distancing guidelines, and we hope you will enjoy being back in the church worship setting. The range of colors and light are impressive! (Sound was a bit of a challenge, as being in the large space creates a significant amount of reverberation...something we will find a way to improve next time.)
It's a communion Sunday, so you are invited to prepare bread and cup to participate with us at home.
We are focusing again on "Glimpses of Paradise." This week we look at 2 Corinthians 12: 1-10, in which Paul describes his own experience of being lifted up to "the third heaven" and "paradise." After that breath-taking time, however, he finds he has to deal with a "thorn in his flesh" that creates frequent pain and frustration in his life. How he learned to deal with this handicap is the core of his message. We'll see what that can mean in our lives, using examples from baseball, grief support groups and the testimony of Dr. Francis Collins, current Director of the National Institute of Health and close collaborator with Dr. Fauci.
Rev. Judith Muller is our reader and co-celebrant.
Disciple Dog and I will show you how he decided to organize a "heavenly banquet" for his friends.
Chris and Erin lead us in "Gather Us In," "I Love You Lord" and "Amazing Grace." Chris' solo piano pieces include an original composition and a piece by Mendelssohn.
And, of course, it's very exciting to know that in two weeks we'll be introduced to the candidate the Pastor Nominating committee is enthusiastically recommending as the next pastor at St. Andrew's!
