Writers & Publishers Network Announces the 2022 New Voices in Writing Scholarship for the 805 Writers Conference in Ventura, CA

Applications available for regional students and seniors

(Ventura, CA - September 13, 2022) - Writers & Publishers Network (WPN), a literary nonprofit based in Ojai, California, announced today that applications for the 2022 New Voices in Writing Scholarship are open. There are two categories for entrants, ages 15-25 and over 60. Scholarship winners will be selected from submissions to be judged by published authors and professional editors.

The 2022 New Voices in Writing Scholarship was established in 2014 to support the work of student and senior writers by providing access to the valuable information and resources widely available at the 805 Writers Conference.

“Writing conferences are the best place for new writers to hear from professionals about the craft and business of writing,” said Kathleen Kaiser, president of Writers & Publishers Network. “My experience at my first conference gave me such encouragement, a community of other writers, editors, successful authors, and book marketers, and the tools to keep me on track through publication. I know the benefits and want to pass on that opportunity.”

WPN is looking for up-and-coming writers to support during the scholarship application period. The 2022 New Voices in Writing Scholarship will provide scholarships to students 16-25 and seniors over 60.

Started in 2011, the 805 Writers Conference & Book Expo will provide scholarships to novice writers working on a book, be it fiction or nonfiction. The scholarship program is based on the following criteria:

• Story

• Characters

• Plot

• Writing quality

Taking place at the Crowne Plaza on November 5 & 6, 2022, steps from the beach, WPN is hosting a free, open-to-the-public Book Expo this year. The conference will feature best-selling authors, nationally recognized book marketing experts, literary agents, and editors. The Book Expo will open from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, and the book-loving public is welcome. The conference tickets are available for both days or just one day and may be purchased at 805writersconference.com.

The 805 Writers Conference is not only for people wanting to learn about the craft and business of book publishing but for book lovers too. Three ways to enjoy, learn, or find your new favorite book.

New this year—the 805 Book Expo features over 40 regional authors daily and all conference speakers signing books at scheduled times. The Expo is open to the public for free.

The entire conference is available in-person or via Zoom for people unable to attend. Zoom attendees will have a special extra – the ability to schedule a talk with a book editor about their manuscripts. In-person attendees will have the opportunity to meet with a literary agent.

Four half-day workshops will cover memoirs, characters, book marketing, and author branding. Registration for these workshops opens on August 15.
