Hello everyone,

Students in one of my group classes this week were discussing the Alexander mosaic (above). A floor mosaic, it was discovered in the House of the Faun in Pompeii and is now on display in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. It's thought the mosaic is a copy of a 3rd century BC painting.

Notice how Alexander and Darius are making eye-contact; Darius is looking back at Alexander, and his chariot is already moving away from the battle. An unfortunate soldier is being trampled by a horse at the bottom right. Below, is a photograph of the mosaic reconstructed.
