7 November – 6 December
Opening on 6 November, by invitation only

We are happy to invite you to join us on an imaginary journey through Erró's unique monotype works from 2020, based on a series of paintings which he started working on in 1967.

Mao’s quote “The east wind will prevail over the west wind” could serve as a leitmotif for these paintings, where Mao and his red troops pose proudly like conquerors in front of different tourist attractions in the West.

Since Mao travelled abroad only twice during his reign – to Moscow – Erró’s paintings can be seen as ironic interpretations of Mao’s influence in the western world in the late 1960s. However, one is also struck by their unconscious anticipation of the new world order we are experiencing today.

Erró’s work is immediately recognizable for its images inspired by all kinds of visual material – from tourist leaflets, comics and advertisements to political propaganda, art history and religious traditions – composed into new imagery serving other purposes in his paintings.

We wish you a warm welcome to enjoy the opening of the exhibition with a glass of champagne on Friday 6 November 16.00–20.00. We will of course respect the restrictions of The Public Health Agency of Sweden (FHM) with regard to the current situation.
