☀️ Summer 2021 Recap

Hey y'all! This summer has been a wild one from California to Florida to NYC. But it's nearing the end of summer and I wanted to share what I've been up to. Here's what I've been doing for the last 3 months.

Quantum Research

This summer I got the phenomenal opportunity to work in not one but TWO quantum computing labs: The Shabani Quantum Materials Lab and Berkeley Quantum Nanoelectronics Lab. I even got to see a dilution fridge in-person!

Fluxonium Qubit Analysis at UC Berkeley

I flew out to UC Berkeley near SF for a few weeks this summer. I worked as an intern at the Siddiqui Quantum Nanoelectronics Lab. Prior to flying out, I've been doing remote simulations but in-person I got a sneak peek into the hardware side.

I worked on using fitting code to see if the results of the qubit experiments matched the desired outcome. You can get a glimpse of the work with my GitHub repo here.

Quantum Image Processing for Pneumonia at NYU

For 8 weeks this summer, I was an intern at the Shabani Quantum Materials Lab. My capstone project was utilizing quantum computing to implement the Flexible Representation of Quantum Images (FRQI) on pneumonia lung samples.

At the finale of my time, I had the opportunity to present my work to individuals in the quantum industry – including those from the US Army, IBM, and other academic labs.

I am also excited to announce that I'm continuing my research at The Shabani Lab part-time throughout the 2021-2022 academic year.

The Q-munity Expansion

Q-munity began as quantum education for high-school students by high-school students. Over time, this "no prerequisites" approach to learning took off and we received interest in our programming from older students as well as non-technical individuals in other fields.

We noticed that business people in particular seeked out this low barrier-to-entry, rapid learning to make their company quantum-ready. However, aren't any resources devoted to tackling this issue.

We are building the quantum training ecosystem.

By training both businesses and students, we are able to funnel trained individuals into business and vise versa.

We've launched our job board, trends newsletter, and Discord. Our next few months will involve rapid accumulation of course content and hiring instructors.

Mwana Update

For those of you who are newer subscribers, Mwana is a conversational AI that delivers instant healthcare support to mothers in rural Nigeria via SMS.

Besides building the website and product backend, my team and I have spent this summer building out the chat functionality and board of medical experts.

Just this week, we launched our MVP on FB messenger! Using our FB page, people can message Mwana and get instant responses.
