There are several well-known examples of godly mothers of the Bible who prayed for their children. As we celebrate mothers this month, meet a mom who went from disgraced to blessed. Meet Elizabeth.

We meet Elizabeth in Luke Chapter 1 after her husband had a vision in the temple. The angel who appeared to Zechariah promised that his wife Elizabeth would have a baby.

It sounded impossible because of Elizabeth’s advanced age, but the prophecy came as a result of their prayers for a child when she became the mother of John.

Elizabeth spent years praying for a son. She waited and waited and now her prayers were answered, long after the probable time for an answer.

In Luke 1:25 we hear Elizabeth’s prayer…

The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”

God answered her prayers and through divine intervention, her promised child was part of the plan for the Messiah and she and Mary shared this special bond of miracle babies from God.

When Elizabeth and Mary met during their pregnancies, Mary’s greeting caused baby John to leap in his mother’s womb. As these powerful mothers embraced, neither of them had any idea how their babies would impact God’s people.

To God Be The Glory, for biblical mothers like Elizabeth and the prayers they prayed for their children. These prayer warrior moms were intentional, consistent, and specific when lifting up their children in prayer. What a beautiful example they set for mothers of all ages!

The Missionaries had a joyous luncheon at Ramsey's  on Saturday, May 17th. Sister Shirley Jones was the coordinator of the luncheon. Everyone present enjoyed a delicious meal of their choice along with warm, lively fellowship. President Delores Spencer topped off the occasion with decorative gift bags filled with goodies including cupcakes and assorted candies.To God be the Glory for Christian Joy and Laughter.

This morning we celebrated the Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church Parent Body Missionary Anniversary!

Following Christ centered devotions led by our Deacons, Interim Pastor, Rev. Dr. Samuel Peoples, led the Deacons in unveiling the chair draped in honor of the late Deacon Richard B. Briscoe Sr. who served faithfully and tirelessly in the church. “God bless his memory!”

Rev. Peoples then gave a praise worthy Call To Worship and introduced Mistress of Ceremony, Sister Elizabeth Taylor who shared the program of the day.

Sister Aiya Leath shared our scripture reading from Psalm 96: 1-3.

Brother Kered Anderson offered fervent invocation.

Sister Diana Mabson led the Mass Choir in soul stirring selections including…”I’m Glad To Be In The Service,” “Your Grace & Mercy,” “More Than Anything,” “That’s Love.”

Sister Sabrynn Wright offered words of welcome and reminded us “we are all missionaries for Christ!”

Deacon Wayne and Sister Johnetta Frazier shared a poignant In Memoriam, paying tribute to the memory of: Sister Pauline Cunningham, Rev. Clifton Gay III, Brother C’Avevoun Robinson, Brother Hugh Sterling, Sister Francine Drake, Sister Eleanor Beatty, Sister Rene Givens, Deacon Richard B. Briscoe Sr., and Brother George Ray.

Sister Elizabeth Taylor asked for a special prayer for Sister Norma Johnson who was scheduled on program to share the Parent Body Mission Statement and Purpose. However she suffered a fall at home on Saturday and is receiving medical attention.

Sister Taylor went on to share the Unison Scripture reading from Matthew 28:19, which is the Parent Body Mission statement and Purpose. “We are to spread the gospel!”

Sister Patricia Hayden shared the weekly announcements (also listed in the church newsletter).

Sister Delores Spencer, President of the Parent Body Missionary Society shared greetings and heartfelt remarks and prayers. She thanked God “for the opportunity to serve for another year!”

“In the last several months, we have fed over 300 meals with the Ronald McDonald House, the Lexington Rescue Mission. Collected hats, gloves, socks, blankets for the nursing homes. Christmas fruit baskets were given out to our church family. We have prepared candidates for baptism. Clothes cleaned and washed by Sister Darrylyn Combs. Sister Gloria Conner, who leads our card ministry by sending out cards to the sick and the bereaved . We have donated donations to flood victims in the eastern part of Kentucky. These are just a few things that we are involved in.”

Sister Spencer thanked Sister Shirley Jones for a wonderful missionary luncheon fellowship on Saturday at Ramsey's Restaurant.

Rev. Dr. Samuel Peoples shared God’s word with us from 2 Corinthians 4:1. His subject was “It’s What We Have.”

He ended in song, lifting up “Just Come” during the invitation to discipleship.

Sister Karen Taylor gave this morning’s Parent Body Missionary Anniversary offertory appeal. Member taxation of $10 or more is appreciated.

Deacon Edward Givens gave the offertory prayer followed by the Benediction and Doxology by Rev. Peoples.

Welcome to the 40 Year Christians' Cooking Corner! 

Here we will feature recipes from the 40 Year Christian Group. This week's recipe was submitted by Sister Alyce Emerson from Nutrition Education Program UK Cooperative Extension Service.

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bites

Ingredients

1 cup creamy peanut butter

2/3 cup unsweetened
applesauce or 2 large very ripe bananas (or half of each)

1/3 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla

2 teaspoons cinnamon

2 cups quick oats

3/4 cup dried fruit

(cranberries, raisins, apples, dates, etc., or a mixture)

1/2 cup chopped nuts, pepitas (pumpkin seeds), or sunflower seeds (or a mixture)

Directions

1. Wash hands with warm water and soap, scrubbing at least 20 seconds.
2. Preheat the oven to
   350 degrees F.
3. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
4. In a large bowl, mix the peanut butter, applesauce or bananas, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth. Add the oats, dried fruit, and nuts, stirring until
5. Drop the dough into equal sizes onto the baking sheets, about 2 tablespoons per cookie. Flatten the top with the back of a spoon.
6. Bake 12 to 16 minutes or until the edges are slightly brown and the dough is set, but soft.
7. Remove from oven and cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
8. Store in an airtight container.
   Use within four days or freeze.

God gives us these many, many blessings in our lives, not for our own sake, but for HIS and to know me is to know that my blessing is your blessing. Resilience When Stressed

To be resilient In stressful situations requires the ability to; Focus on self care, connect with others and practice mindfulness. Prioritize your physical wellbeing and engage in activities you enjoy. Build strong relationships, lean on your family and friends for emotional support and guidance. Connect with others who share your interests and seek professional and spiritual counseling when needed. FLU

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.

Flu shots are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding a flu vaccination.

RSV

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms. In older adults and adults with certain underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections.

COVID-19

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.

The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.
