I just wanted to dash off a quick update today because the European Union has officially proposed that its members start to lift restrictions on vaccinated travelers. The member states will vote on the proposal in the coming weeks.
It is widely assumed that the proposal will shortly become policy, but in the end each member state may shape its own requirements. In some cases they may be less restrictive and in other cases, more so. As a travel advisor, it's my job to try and stay on top of these variations; but of course, the more uniform the policy across the EU, the better. Today's announcement was a positive step.
The Washington Post has a good summary of developments here.
If you'd like to read the full (and rather dry) press release from the EU, you can find it here.
I am also watching for initial stages of the UK's opening to be announced very soon. By the time President Biden visits the UK in June, we may see details regarding an agreement on a travel corridor, allowing vaccinated passengers to skip the UK's arrival quarantine requirement.
I do have a Mon Voyage Small Group Trip for the Amalfi Coast, Sicily, and Rome scheduled for October. I believe all of the clients for this adventure have been vaccinated (as have been virtually all of my clients), and I'm feeling hopeful that we will finally make it.
Stay tuned for more developments and keep dreaming of that next destination. We WILL get there.
