Deals, steals, and news from author Michelle Isenhoff.

A few weeks ago, before events sequestered everyone indoors, my husband, daughter Emily, and I traveled to DC to check out an internship opportunity Emily would like to pursue when she graduates from college this spring. While we were there, we drove a few hours outside the city and passed the inevitable Civil War battlefield signs. My heart leaps every time I pass these, and I always beg to stop and "look around for a moment." I'm fascinated by the time period and don't always practice moderation when I'm studying battles or traipsing around the actual sites.

A few years ago, after reading thousands of pages about Gettysburg in preparation for an upcoming vacation, I dragged my family around the battlefield for hours, explaining each of the three days' maneuvers. Unfortunately, my family doesn't share my obsession. I was overruled outside of DC and had to settle for a drive-by with my nose pressed to the window.

It's equally thrilling for me to take what I've learned and turned it into a story. This particular series (Divided Decade Collection) targets middle graders. History becomes real and personal for kids who view it through the eyes of a character. As a teacher, I love making that magic happen! Each book is priced at a very accessible 3.99. They're available at all major online vendors, and Amazon also carries paperbacks.

In addition, I've created tons of FREE classroom materials, from lesson plans to map skills, from discussion questions to vocabulary. If you're interested, check them out here. Then scroll to the bottom of that page and sign up to have them delivered to your inbox.

(By the way, I do have plans to head south BY MYSELF in a few years--after my youngest graduates high school--and bring my bike so I can tour as many of these battlefields as I want to at my leisure!)

Before you go, be sure to check out the books and promos featured below. They're always free or bargain priced. I generally bounce between speculative and historical fiction (the main genres I write in), and sometimes some fantasy, middle grade, or a bit of romance, just to keep things interesting.

Happy reading!

Michelle
