Next in the LCA Series of Friday Talks Friday 7th January 2.30pm' 'Romany Life - Geoff Burch and David Rose' - a look at gypsies, travellers and itinerant workers in the Surrey area in days gone by. The places they made their camps, the work they did - harvesting on farms and market gardens, hop picking and their ways and traditions. Lots of vintage pictures from David Rose’s collection and personal family details from Geoff Burch whose mother was born into a Gypsy family. 2.30 pm in the Abraham Dixon Hall at Leatherhead Institute. £3 per person booked in advance via the LCA Office, £5 per person paid on the door (includes tea/coffee and biscuits after the talk).

Then our amazing Volunteer Team of elves will come along on either the 8th or 9th January and take it away for recycling! when there will be a digital presentation by Roger Price. His subject will be 'Ada
Lovelace – Her Life and Afterlife'. Ada was the only legitimate daughter of
the poet Lord Byron. She was kept in total ignorance of her famous father
until she came of age to be introduced to London Society. There she met
Charles Babbage, designer of the first computer and that set her on the path as
a computer programmer. Certainly ahead of her time. They will be serving
complimentary tea and coffee, served from 7.15pm. Entry fee is free to OVRA
members. £5 to non-members.
The Arts Society Horsley Lovelace Wednesday 19th January 10.30am Attend a wide ranging programme of lectures on the arts. Lectures are held at the East Horsley Village Hall, Kingston Avenue, KT24 6QT. Coffee is served beforehand from 9.45am.The next lecture is "Emile Galle: Master of Art Noveau Glass" by Anne Anderson. Organ Refurbishment Fund in Farnham Wednesday 19th Jannuary 12.30pm New Year Lunchtime Recital to be given by Nicola Sharkey, soprano and Brian Cotterill, piano and organ at St Thomas-on-The Bourne. Please come and support Nicola and Brian’s performance , which will be their first Recital at St Thomas-on the Bourne for several years. A New Year Concert in Haslemere Saturday 22nd January 10am This concert will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Halslemere Methodist Church at Lion Green. It will start at 10am with coffee and cake in the open door cafe followed by the concert at 11am. A sparking celebration of music to uplift the soul and banish the January blues. Viennese operetta, musical theatre favourites and the famous Blue Danube Waltz on the organ, performed by Clive Osgood with Rebecca Moon soprano. Free entry with retiring collection.
