Hello friends, 

There are many women physicians who feel like they're not living up to their potential, especially after many years of practice.  They take care of everyone around them- patients, kids, pets, elderly parents- and then run out of energy, and end up neglecting themselves.  Here are seven secrets to a happy and fulfilled life as a woman physician:

Set Boundaries.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to set boundaries. When you say "no" to things that don't serve you, it opens up space for the things that do. It's not selfish to put yourself first - it's necessary. Prioritize your wellbeing and watch your life transform.

Take Time for Play.

In the midst of a hectic schedule, it's easy to forget the importance of play and laughter. But taking time out to have fun is crucial for maintaining your health and happiness. When you let yourself relax and enjoy activities that make you feel good, it's impossible not to smile. And a good belly laugh is always invigorating. 

Choose Your Battles.

There will always be people who's views differ from your own. And that's okay! It's what makes us unique and special. But you don't have to engage in every argument or prove your point all the time. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. So pick your battles wisely, and save your energy for the things that truly matter. It's impossible to please everyone, so don't even try. Instead, focus on the relationships and causes that are most important to you.

Find Your Tribe.

Who are the people you like being around? Where can you find them? Whether it's a book club, yoga class, wine tasting group, or golf course, make time for activities that allow you to surrounded by people who make you happy. These relationships will be a source of strength and support when times are tough.

Make Time for Yourself.

In our busy lives, it's easy to forget about taking care of ourselves. But if we don't make time for self-care, every one around us also suffers. When Mama's not happy, no one is happy! So make sure to schedule some time each week just for you. When you feel good about you, you are able to be a better wife, mother, and physician.

Love learning.

When you take on a beginner's mindset, everything becomes an opportunity to grow and learn. Embrace change and challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone often. You'll be a happier person for it, and your patients and loved ones will benefit from your fresh perspective.

Strive for excellence, not perfectionism.

Physicians are groomed from an early age to get straight A's, be the top of our class, and aim for perfection in everything we do. But this level of achievement often comes at the expense of our emotional well-being. Instead of striving for unattainable perfection, focus on becoming the best version of yourself. You'll be happier and more fulfilled as a result.
