Incident Description

The MDAT-GoG have received an SSAS alert from a tanker, 183nm West-northwest of Santa Catarina. No additional information is available at this time as communication with the vessel cannot be obtained. The local authorities have been informed.

UPDATE: MDAT-GoG have updated the position of the SSAS alert received to 00° 42.24 N 003° 27.00 E. Castor Vali will continue to investigate this incident and release an update upon receipt of confirmed information.

UPDATE 2: MDAT-GoG have provided an updated position for the tanker of 04° 38.12 N 003° 28.18 E which has been confirmed by AIS and the Nigerian Naval vessel that is on scene. Clearwater will continue to investigate this incident and release an update upon receipt of confirmed information.

UPDATE 3: It has been confirmed that the tanker, MT ERRINA, has been attacked and the incident occurred in the current location, 111NM South East of Lagos. The position previously provided by the source was incorrect. Pirates were able to board the tanker, ransacked the crew's cabins and destroyed items of bridge equipment. Castor Vali will continue to investigate this incident and release an update upon receipt of confirmed information.
