I live downwind of McKee Foods, the company that manufactures Little Debbie™ snack cakes. Which means that on certain days, when I step into the yard, the sweet, sweet smell of baked goods is floating in the air. It’s like Mother Nature put a batch of brownies in the ‘ole earth oven.
Catching a whiff makes me at least 16%* happier. Every. Single. Time.
Brownie breezes and confectionery currents aren't what I intended to write to you about this week, but, I’m betting that if your neighborhood smelled like a bake shop, you’d want to share the news, too.
Besides, a 16% increase in happiness - no matter how fabricated my figures are - is worth mentioning. And, it got me thinking about a few other noteworthy percentages that may interest you. (Unlike mine, these numbers are "legit.")
37% of nonprofits sent zero communications to donors who mailed in a gift during year-end 2020. That means zero direct mail appeals, zero emails, zero phone calls, and zero cultivation.** This is a reminder not to neglect supporters who still mail in checks to your organization. Just because they're old school when it comes to donating, they shouldn't miss out on your email newsletters or get skipped during your next email appeal.
Using an open field (instead of listing suggested amounts) on an online donation form resulted in a 125.9% increase in donor conversion.*** Which highlights the importance of reviewing your online forms and experimenting to find what works best for your audience today.
While I don't have a new blog post to share this week, I do have 100% pure love for you(see below) and I hope you'll take a moment to consider these and other statistics that relate to communication, conversions, and how even modest percent increases will help your organization reach more people and raise more funds.
