Message from Fr. Mike for Sunday, Nov. 6 |

My dear St. Philip Neri Parishioners,
An American and a Canadian were discussing the differences between Canadian and American values, traditions, and social dynamics. It didn't take long for the conversation to drift into a tone of defence and accusations and critical evaluations. In frustration, the American said "You Canadians! You know what your problem is - ignorance and apathy! Now what do you think about that?" The Canadian answered, "I don't know, and I don't care!"
St. Maximilian Kolbe reiterates this comment in a statement he said many years ago, "The most deadly poison of our times is indifference. And this happens, although the praise of God should know no limits. Let us strive, therefore, to praise him to the greatest extent of our powers."
We give praise and glory to God when we speak to each other and about each other in words of affirmation and encouragement, love and appreciation, and especially in words of gratitude. Indifference keeps us in emotional and physical isolation, even in a spiritual separation. THANK YOU for the care and enjoyment you show to others, especially as we meet and greet each other before our celebration of the Eucharist.
Your spontaneous generosity to help support our children at Pope John Paul II School through the "Children for Children" collection is commendable. Your generosity and concern for our children is truly a reflection of Jesus' invitation, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat."
Something from the Parish:
There has been an excellent response to the upcoming Parish Pictorial Directory. Your picture in the "Parish Book" helps us to stay in touch with each other, to be visibly present to one another.
PLEASE NOTE: If you haven't registered for your photo appointment yet, please do so ASAP. There are only a few openings/sittings still available. We very much want ALL the appointments booked in. If you don't have a computer to do your booking, please call Joan, at (306) 222-9914 or Bonnie, at (306) 230-2756; they will joyfully help you book a time for your photo sitting.
Praise be Jesus Christ … and Mary Immaculate
St. Philip Neri … pray for us
St. Eugene de Mazenod … pray for us
St. Kateri Tekakwitha … pray for us
Wherever you go, go with God … Whenever you go, go make a difference.
Fr. Mike

A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children at risk and in fear that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus the Prince of Peace. Amen.

A Thank-you Note
Thank you everyone for the gifts, cards, and kind words I received over these last weeks and days. I am now officially retired and looking forward to this next chapter in my life. I have enjoyed working on staff as one of the Administrative Assistants these last five years and have formed many new friendships. I have been truly blessed to have been of service to you, the St. Philip Neri faith community, as one of God’s greatest blessings is His gift of special people – the ones who touch our days with kindness, fill our hearts with gratitude and bring His love to life.
Blessings to you all,
Cathy Martell

Please join us on Wednesday, November 9, at 7 pm in St. Phlip Neri Parish's Welcome Area, for the second fall Truth and Reconciliation Discussion Group. Awakening with Joy and Purpose as We Age
Saturday, November 19
Awakening with Joy and Purpose as We Age will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, in-person at Queen’s House, 601 Taylor St. W., as well as online via Zoom.
We often find ourselves “sleep walking” through life, busy and distracted, unaware of important moments and messages which teach us what we need to live a life of purpose and joy. Meditation and mindfulness awaken us to conscious living, an awareness of the divine in everything. Major life events and aging plunge us into the second half of life where we become more aware of our spiritual journey, our life changes, and inevitable death. Are we victims or sages, giving up or embracing the mystery? Are we open to encounter the divine within, finding true meaning and ultimate peace? This day away will give time to connect with ourselves, other people, and with God. The day will include spiritual talks, mindfulness meditation and contemplative prayer, along with gentle restorative yoga. No previous experience necessary; optional poses for chair or mat will be available, choose to “simply sit with shining eyes and breathe the breath of life on our shared spiritual journey.”
Facilitators of Awakening with Joy and Purpose” are Diane Waldbillig and Elaine Zakreski of Holy Yoga. Fee: $85 onsite; $70 zoom. Registration at https://www.queenshouse.org/programs/
or call Queen’s House. at (306) 242-1916. Registration deadline is Nov. 14.
