Prevention
Over the past three years, I think we all have become knowledgeable in preventing colds.
First the basics. Rest, fluids, and reducing stress are the some of the basic foundations for good health and keeping your immune system at its peak best performance. I noticed that the sickest people who came into the office over the years had not rested well for several weeks and were experiencing more stress.
Additionally, high blood levels of vitamin D, vitamin C and zinc are important to fight off viral illnesses. Vitamin D and zinc help prevent viruses from entering and infecting cells and vitamin C is critical for the oxidative processes of the immune system which kill invading organisms. I suggest at least 5000 units of vitamin D per day and 2000 mg of vitamin C per day. Zinc is usually, 40mg per day but if you are taking a multi-vitamin with zinc, that should be sufficient if you don't want to add more pills.
Treatment strategies
I was listening to Dr. Peter McCollough on The Highwire yesterday and he said something I also found in my experience over the last 3 years. That is that it is more beneficial to treat these respiratory illness early.
What I mean by early is not as soon as your nose starts running or a scratchy throat starts. It is more along the lines of body aches, more intense sore throat, coughing, or a profound fatigue that overtakes a person. The profound fatigue seems to be the most significant. None of these symptoms may be associated with a fever. They can also occur rapidly. People feel well one day and overnight major symptoms. It this occurs, Dr. McCollough's and my experiences tell us to treat early. So don't wait.
Typical what I use for these illnesses is our Cold Facts supplement, Zithromax antibiotic, and Ivermectin antiviral. The combination of these three with rest and fluids usually gets people well, fairly quickly.
