Sadly we say that Jen Dunlap is leaving us as Public Engagement Coordinator. She's calling herself a boomerang, heading back to the Manada Conservancy from whence she came to us. We have vowed not to be mad at them! If you know someone who might be a good fit, please share the position description and have them get in touch with Marci.
What is it about trees? Obviously, that's a question we ponder a lot as outdoorsy folks. We love to hang out in a dense forest and a lone tree struggling against all odds captures our imaginations like few other things.
So it was with a heavy heart that I read a post on the the Hiking & Backpacking Pennsylvania Book of Faces about the "passing" of an iconic tree at Barbour Rock along the West Rim Trail of the PA Grand Canyon. The tributes that followed from so many trail users were incredibly moving, especially a poem by group member Christina LeBlanc-Van Der Donk.
As I've noted in the past, this group was taken private by its administrators to keep the annoying spam to a minimum so sharing the individual pictures and the poem was not possible. Instead, I made this compilation. The group members seem to agree it was appropriate to leave here with you.
