When last we met the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace were beginning to deal with the aftermath of the fallen tree that took out the playground at Fuller Lake.
"Circle of life," their recent post explained. "Tree destroys playground, we turn tree into firewood, sell at Campground, raise money to buy new playground. And so it goes. Thank you to the State Park Maintenance crew who removed the big tree that hit the Fuller Lake playground. They brought chunks of the fallen tree to the Friends’ splitting area, where volunteers are taking advantage of warmer weather to begin turning logs into firewood.
We typically run splitters on Monday mornings. If you’d like to help, email PineGroveFriends@gmail.com. Friends of Pine Grove Furnace sell locally sourced firewood not just as a fundraiser and a service to campers, but also to discourage long-distance transport of wood that might harbor forest pests & pathogens."
