COVID-19 EFFECTS: Guyana’s 2020 growth rate toppled from 86% to 26% – says IMF

Oct 19, 2020 – Kaieteur News – The unprecedented economic blows that have been unleashed by the COVID-19 pandemic, has forced the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to further downgrade its growth forecasts for 2020.
According to the financial institution, Guyana’s 2020 Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to see a 26.2 percent growth, instead of the previously announced 53 percent.

GUYANA: Major restoration phase of iconic St. George’s Cathedral completed
Facelift: The St. George’s Cathedral – The building was completed in 1899.
Oct 19, 2020 – Kaieteur News – One of the country’s most renowned of national monuments has undergone four years of major renovations, opening to mass yesterday, October 18, 2020.
However, the work is not complete yet on the St. George’s Cathedral, which has been described as the tallest wooden building in the world.
There is still work to fix the main roof and the need to build a protective fence.

While the squatters at Success were slowly being submerged under water and the police were firing pellet rounds, President Irfaan Ali was at the Providence Stadium in dream mode. He was attending the opening of a two-day exercise for the distribution of land titles called ‘Dream Realised’ held by the Ministry of Housing and Water.
Addressing himself to the squatters he said, “My brothers and sisters at Success… we want you to own your homes too; that is why we sent the housing team so many times to see you. We want to help you. We are going to move as fast as possible in this programme but I am appealing to Guyanese let us do it the right way.”
