‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’ Luke 2:10-12
The birth of Christ is upon us.
The Gospels of both Matthew and Luke place the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Luke states that Mary gave birth to Jesus and placed him in a manger “because there was no place for them in the inn". Take that in. The creator of the universe came to our world as one of us, born to a small and forgotten people, in a small and forgotten family, and placed in a manger. For us. For you, and for me.
2020 has been a difficult year for us all and we look towards the coming of Jesus Christ into our world to wash away our tears, wash away the pain, and give us his guiding and comforting light that we all long for. A God who gave up all glory to be born in a manger to bring us hope, love, and life if a God we can trust. Will you trust God? Even though we don’t know what the future holds, we know who holds the future. That’s what we celebrate today.
My friends, the Peace of Christ be with you all. We wish you a Merry Christmas.
