Happy Thanksgiving!

Stay safe online while giving thanks this holiday season

For some of you this week of Thanksgiving may be hectic while for others it may be a time for relaxation. Either way, we wish you a happy, memorable and safe Thanksgiving with your near and dear ones! Whether you may be traveling or staying local this holiday season, here are some basic tips that you can take to stay safe online!

Uber Paid Hackers to Delete Stolen Data on 57 Million People

Hackers stole the personal data of 57 million customers and drivers from Uber Technologies Inc., a massive breach that the company concealed for more than a year. Uber instead or reporting the breach, paid the hackers responsible $100,000 to delete the data and keep the breach quiet. As per the law, companies are required to notify state residents of any breach of unencrypted personal information, and must inform the attorney general if more than 500 residents are affected by a single breach. Non-disclosure creates a practical risk in the hundreds of millions.

Holiday cybersecurity: Defense tips for hospitals to get systems through the season

Historically, organizations in various industries, including healthcare, have seen spikes in cyberattacks during November and December. This is in large part due to the fact that during the holidays, employees often are not in front of their desktop computer and instead performing tasks remotely – and more likely to click on links or get duped by spear-phishing emails, cybersecurity experts said.

At the same time, hospital IT and security workers are on vacation during the holidays and it is thus more difficult for these teams to respond to cyberattacks. Cybersecurity experts have some tips for healthcare information security specialists to help best protect data during the hectic holidays.

5 information security threats that will dominate 2018

The global security threat outlook evolves with every coming year. To combat the threat in 2018, enterprises must understand these five global cyber threats, according to Information Security Forum (ISF), a global, independent information security body that focuses on cyber security and information risk management:

  • Crime-as-a-service (CaaS) will expand available tools and services.
  • The internet of things (IoT) will further add unmanaged risks.
  • The supply chain will remain the weakest link in risk management.
  • Regulation will add to the complexity of critical asset management.
  • Unmet board expectations will be exposed by major incidents.
