It’s easy to forget how long the creator economy has been going, seeing that it changes and moulds into very different waves every three to five years. I even saw a TikTok the other day that claimed to transport users back ten years. It featured a slideshow of products that were super popular during the YouTube beauty vlogger era. I literally felt 13 again.

I very rarely scroll the Instagram feed anymore. I’m a TikTok using GenZer – sorry! However, I do browse Instagram stories because I love to see what my friends and team members are up to. A stylist friend I know, who has worked with the likes of Celeste and Eliza Doolittle, reposted a very interesting screenshot of a message on her story which stopped me in my shellac-painted scrolling tracks. 

The screenshot was of an Instagram DM which read the following;
“Hi Jack, we actually decided to add some of the works from our Pinterest board into an AI generator and that’s gonna be the album artwork. Hopefully we can work together in the future!”

Despite the CD purchasing era ending over a decade ago, many still don’t know how music making can be monetised. That’s why it is so encouraging to see a music streaming service platform so keen to prioritise helping artists monetise their work through connection with fans. 

That service is SoundCloud. When you think about it, SoundCloud is the only streaming service which lets artists and fans connect directly, which provides it with an upper hand in this field.

So, there is a mouse trapped in the living room of me and my partner’s flat. And until the agency sorts our Rentakil to come this week, we’re restricted to hanging out exclusively in the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. So last night, we sat on our bed with our homemade udon noodle soup and instead of watching a movie or talking about our day we decided to browse the internet’s AI potential.

We each took it in turns to create visual works of art with the help of an AI generator. My favourite was ‘woman in a field gazing at the moon’ and his was ‘black boy swimming in abstract blue’.

Some of these startups will be more helpful than others for creators to solve the challenges they face on a day-to-day basis...
