Poster Power! at Victoria Art Gallery opens next week, 23 January - 10 May
This colourful exhibition showcases an exceptional range of British posters from the 19th and 20th centuries, drawn from the collections of the Victoria Art Gallery and Bath Record Office.
Reflecting the spirit of the times, the wide-ranging display encompasses theatre, events and entertainment, travel and transport, political campaigns and even World War One recruiting.
Many of the posters have links to the Bath area, advertising events such as Theatre Royal shows, the Bath & West Show, community events on Walcot Street, and Bath Festivals through the ages.
The display includes a selection of posters by Bath-based artists Clifford and Rosemary Ellis, who worked as partners designing iconic posters for London Transport and Shell during the 1930s.
There's also a stunning array of vintage railway posters designed to entice tourists to Bath with images of Georgian architecture and The Roman Baths.
In our January issue, Joanna Lewis spoke with the gallery’s collections manager, Katharine Wall, to learn more about the exhibition. Read the article on our website.
Poster Power! is on display at the Victoria Art Gallery from 23 January to 10 May. Visit victoriagal.org.uk for more details, including opening times and ticket prices. The exhibition is free for local Discovery Card holders.

Heist-Out
The second issue of disrupter watch mag Heist-Out is a downsized affair, being published to the pocket-sized dimensions of an iPhone 16. The idea is to challenge our relationship with consumption, asking us why we might need to own a watch when our phone can tell us the time. This issue offers, say the publishers, ‘a tongue-in-cheek exploration of size, value, and ego within the world of watches.’ We’re not putting this dinky little thing on the shelf but keeping it in a draw, so if you come in and you can’t see it, just ask.

Join the La Terra team for a special evening featuring the wine of the North of Italy, Trentino region: Mezzacorona.

A fresh and wild breeze blows from over 400 lakes and numerous glaciers of the surrounding mountains, peaking at over 9,000 feet.
Thanks to a spectrum of microclimates, ranging from Mediterranean and Alpine, and profiting from over a century of winemaking experience, Mezzacorona planted varietals in the zones that have been tailored to the needs of each varietal, allowing them to flaunt the aromas and flavor of their terroir.

Bath-born photographer Brynley Odu Davies will return to Bath College on Wednesday 22 January to present an exhibition of his artist portraits that he's created over the past five years.
The exhibition takes place on campus for students and staff, offering a rare glimpse into Brynley’s five-year portrait series, and will be accompanied by a talk reflecting on his journey from student to published photographer.
This full-circle moment revisits the place where Brynley first studied photography a decade ago. The project brings together portraits from his 2023 monograph with Trolley Books alongside new works from the ongoing series, with plans to expand the project to regional galleries in the future.
