    Food for Thought

    The Horse That Ran Away

Once upon a time, there was a Chinese farmer whose horse ran away. That evening, all of his neighbours came around to commiserate. They said, “We are so sorry to hear your horse has run away. This is most unfortunate.” The farmer said, “Maybe.”

The next day the horse came back bringing seven wild horses with it, and in the evening everybody came back and said, “Oh, isn’t that lucky. What a great turn of events. You now have eight horses!” The farmer again said, “Maybe.”

The following day his son tried to break one of the horses, and while riding it, he was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbours then said, “Oh dear, that’s too bad,” and the farmer responded, “Maybe.”

The next day the conscription officers came around to conscript people into the army, and they rejected his son because he had a broken leg. Again all the neighbours came around and said, “Isn’t that great!” Again, he said, “Maybe.”

The whole process of nature is an integrated process of immense complexity, and it’s really impossible to tell whether anything that happens in it is good or bad — because you never know what will be the consequence of the misfortune; or, you never know what will be the consequences of good fortune.

      Lit Christmas Baubles

As promised - the same Christmas Baubles I posted earlier, but this time after sunset. I have not seen these before in those trees, so this must be their first year. So pretty - many people had come to take photos of them.

Do you have a funny story you would like to see published in this letter? An event, what someone said? If so, send me your funny story in an email

      Cute birthday cake

This is a picture of the birthday cake of our goddaughter.

When I was a child, birthday cakes were always cream cakes (Not complaining! Yummy!) but after it has become a fire hazard to put candles on my birthday cake, these cute cakes have appeared. I just love the cake art some people can do!

What made you happy today? Send a note and tell, if you wish to share your little happy moment with others.

      Writing Blog / Ouch

No posts last week as I managed to pull a muscle on my back. Couldn't sit (or stand) by the computer. So I got bored by the TV for one day and then remembered I could doodle with my iPad. Spent time after that in a half-lying position, supported by pillows and sketched a picture to Pharaoh's Horse. I suppose that settled the question will I illustrate it using traditional pens and brushes or do I paint digitally. I will post the time-lapse video on my website at some point in case you are interested in seeing how I paint.

I sell my books directly too. The ebooks are cheap to buy and the big e-stores don't share much of the price with the authors. That is why I have downloaded my books to Payhip - they don't take a commission which makes it easier for me to pay my editor, proofreader and cover designer.
