On the International Day of Education, UNESCO and IEA jointly released the open access Responses to Educational Disruption Survey (REDS) International Report and Database. Discover the findings here. 

Countries participating in TIMSS 2023 are now invited to participate in the optional TIMSS Longitudinal Study, which aims to quantify student learning gains over a year and investigate contextual factors of student achievement.

As the pandemic continues to cause worldwide disruptions, we share a summary of how IEA studies have progressed in recent months, including IEA's COVID-19 studies and other studies that IEA are a part of.

IEA is welcoming research proposals for the Research and Development (R&D) open call, which relates to IEA’s mission to advance research and innovation. Details about the call can be found on the IEA website here. 

IEA is pleased to announce that Mr Jan-Peter Broek has been appointed as the new Financial Director of IEA Amsterdam from 1 January 2022. More information can be found on the IEA website here. 

IEA offers two annual awards to recognize high-quality empirical research that makes use of IEA data. The next application deadline is 31 March 2022 and more information about how to apply can be found here.

The open access Responses to Educational Disruption International Report, User Guide, and International Database have now all been published and are available via the IEA website and UNESDOC. The REDS International Report provides valuable, cross-nationally, and internationally comparable new data, covering an extensive range of topics associated with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on education, as perceived by school principals, teachers, and students who were directly affected.

The recently released TIMSS 2023 Assessment Frameworks provides the foundation for the four international assessments that comprise IEA’s TIMSS 2023: TIMSS Mathematics—Fourth Grade, TIMSS Mathematics—Eighth Grade, TIMSS Science—Fourth Grade, and TIMSS Science—Eighth Grade.

IEA is pleased to announce the release of Dinaric Perspectives on TIMSS 2019: Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science in South-Eastern Europe, a special regional report made possible through the funding and support of the European Commission. The publication brings together national experts from across the Dinaric region to rigorously review IEA’s TIMSS 2019 grade four data to develop a multidimensional and culturally sensitive perspective on their TIMSS 2019 primary-level results.

The journal has also announced a Special Issue on the educational disruption due to the COVID-19 crisis based on empirical analysis of data available in the REDS database, providing new evidence on the impact of COVID-19 on students, teachers, or schools.

This ongoing publication provides a comprehensive overview of topics related to International Large-scale Assessment (ILSA).

With contributions from IEA colleagues and partners, the Springer publication includes reflections on theories and major debates about ILSAs from a neo-institutional and social network perspective.

UNESCO recently published a document providing further detail to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Thematic Indicator 4.a.2 that measures “safe, nonviolent, inclusive, and effective learning environments” by collecting data on the percentage of students who experienced bullying in the last 12 months. The collection methods suggested for this indicator are international surveys, including IEA’s TIMSS and PIRLS data on bullying.
