In 2014 someone whom I barely knew put my name up for a coveted role in the organisation where I worked at the time. When I asked, "why me?", they said my name “dropped in their head” ...while they were in the shower. What made this particularly weird was, that morning, I'd been in a conversation with God (possibly around the same time said person was in the shower) about being tired of my current role and needing a change. I'd thought my next move was to go back to school for an MBA and had made plans to start the necessary research over the weekend that had just passed. It was one of those four-day weekends (every 9-5ers dream) where Friday and Monday were public holidays.
So there I was, driving to work on Tuesday morning, mentally ticking off my to-do list and thanking God for the ability to finish all but one- B-school research. As I committed to getting started on it later that day, He quietly interrupted me in that way He does with-
“Did I tell you that it was time to leave?”
“I brought you here [into xyz organisation] myself and I will tell you when it's time to leave.”
Me: *first of all, goosebumps* Oh, wow sorry Lord, you're right. *face palm*. I’d just assumed it was time. But I do feel really restless and I know it’s time for something else. Please show me what it is.
I rounded off the conversation as I parked my car and headed into my office building. I’d barely sat down when my desk phone rang and the caller was aforementioned shower-thinker, asking if I was happy with my current role and if I would be open to a change. Thus began a pivotal two years of my corporate experience.
Fast forward to 2020 (yesterday). I'm in the shower asking myself two pertinent questions:
1) What smoothie do you want for brunch? 2) What do you really want to do with your life, Adannia? I can't quite explain the journey, but somewhere between mango-coconut and making impact in a rounded way, the desire to write these letters "dropped in my head."
