Introducing.... The MLTAV is pleased to introduce Helenmary Burnside and Cassandra Hilton who have been appointed recently to support the work of the voluntary MLTAV committee to provide services to members. Helenmary Burnside is the new Member Services Manager and Cassandra Hilton is the Accounts Manager. Both will be working on a part time basis and can be contacted via email, firstname.lastname@example.org A key focus in 2021 will be the development of a new website and online membership renewal system. We welcome Helenmary and Cassandra and look forward to the ways in which their skills and expertise will continue to benefit MLTAV members into the future.

Apply to access MLTAV-funded places for the AFMLTA International Languages Conference
5-6 July 2021, online via Zoom
The MLTAV is pleased to be able to support 20 members to participate in the AFMLTA International Languages Conference to be held online on 5-6 July 2021. Members can apply to have their conference registration funded by the MLTAV.
All successful applicants will need to write a short piece for the December 2021 edition of MLTAV's journal, Languages Victoria. This would be a minimum of 500 words reflecting on key learnings from conference sessions attended. Funded places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. When all places have been filled this application process will be closed. This is an excellent opportunity to access quality Professional Learning suited to teachers of all languages across all levels. This unit of work and package of resources is designed to engage children in learning and using Italian through games. It carefully scaffolds language development through a 10 week unit which teachers can adapt to suit their learners and context. Download the detailed unit planner to see the innovative ideas and how the unit aligns to the Victorian Curriculum: Italian. The activities can be adapted by teachers of other languages and all resources are editable. This project was supported by the Victorian Government
As a member of the MLTAV, you are represented at the national level by the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations (AFMLTA).The AFMLTA is managed by a team of 8 voluntary Executive members. Each year a number of the executive positions are open for nomination. This year nominations are open for the following positions: - President Elect (4 year term - 1 year President Elect, 2 years President, 1 year Past President) - Vice President (2 year term - up to 3 terms) - Secretary (2 year term - up to 3 terms) - Promotions Officer (2 year term - up to 3 terms) - Treasurer ( 1 year casual vacancy)

ACARA Australian Curriculum Review: Languages
ACARA has recently been reviewing the Australian Curriculum across all areas including Languages.
There are 14 individual Languages curricula in the Australian Curriculum. The review has so far proposed revisions to the second language pathways for F-10 and Years 7-10 in Chinese, French, Italian and Japanese. The other Languages subjects and pathways will follow in stages and be completed by 2023.
The Languages Consultation Curriculum for Chinese, French, Italian and Japanese are now available to download and review. Teachers of languages are encouraged to provide feedback through the online survey available on the ACARA Consultation website.
The opportunity to participate in this consultation process will be open until 8 July 2021.
