THE GIFT OF ART, PART 1

The crisp air of this new season brings with it a mood for meditation and a turning towards our most intimate thoughts. The scent of November and the melancholy of fallen leaves by the edge of tree-lined roads guide us in the discovery of our countryside, the hidden medieval villages, the villas bearing witness to a glorious past. Consonant with Aristotle’s vision, at KALPA we believe in the cathartic capacity of art to absorb those emotional states that accompany everyday life and then restore to us a new energy and freedom.

Acquiring a work of art is an act of love towards oneself, a choice in the direction of enriching one's inner and physical space with beauty, warmth and elegance. KALPA's vision revolves around the concepts of refinement of the higher arts, the intuitive passion of craftsmanship and a holistic approach to interior design. The style of the collection we are building balances contemporary and past, West and East in an all-encompassing wabi-sabi sensibility.

FEATURED ARTWORKS

GOLD ON INDIGO AND IVORY

Antonello Viola

Antonello traces a chromatic perimeter through a process of accumulation, stratification and sedimentation of colour, in which the canvas becomes a place devoted to meditation and research of the absolute. The artist turns invisible into visible with thin layers of paint that are then scraped, removed and deleted.

SECOND CHANCE

Sabine Pagliarulo

Through an appreciation of the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy, Sabine re-interprets the universe with a poet’s eye, where imperfections and different shades of colour give life and intensity to the ceramic pieces. The result of her artistic process is the sign of the emotional journey rising from the encounter among the clay, the essential aesthetics and the shaping of the form.

LARGE OPEN VESSEL WITH STRATA

Kate Windibank

Searching for the most intriguing sense of balance and contrast, strength and fragility, Kate creates forms in ceramic with undulating edges, fault lines and fissures. During the multiple firings, the oxides embedded in clay are drawn to the surface, reacting with glaze to create movement and texture on the surface of the vessels.

LO STESSO SEGNO #9

Angela Palmarelli

Angela’s ceramic work presents earth in the act of unravelling a secret code, organised in an elegant, subtle and profound form. Abandoning form, her research focuses on immediate expression in the creation of slabs on which to impress and superimpose traces, in a fascinating attempt to recall and fix, as on the page of a book, the original path of the earth's history.

BLACK OAK #3

Marc Ricourt

Marc's artistic process draws inspiration from the ancient utilitarian object of the vessel. Known for his original and elegant pieces made in Dijon wood, the French turner experiments with dried-out firewood taken from the tree’s heart, to create highly textured rugged surfaces that heighten the sculptural aspect of his work.

Katrien Doms
