On July 21, 1921, Houdini and Gladys Leslie started filming Haldane of the Secret Service at the corner of Henry and Remsen streets in Brooklyn Heights. The location was chosen to take advantage of the stately former home of New York subway magnate, Alexander E. Orr, which stood in as the exterior of the Ormsby home where much of the action at the start of the movie is set.
Houdini later sent a photo taken that night to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle asking the author if he believed the image showed ectoplasm.
