Before that can happen, please take time to celebrate the achievements of those graduating from our UB programs, as commencement season is upon us.
In late April, UB recognized Earth Day with an interesting panel discussion in the CFA. The event was a look at what we, individually, might be willing to do during our work day that would reduce our campus carbon footprint, raise our campus rank in that area, and ultimately best protect our ecosystem. While change on a college campus often comes at a glacial speed (see what I did there with global warming concerns) the changes proposed will happen quickly. I encourage each of you to become involved and stay informed as we join together to combat energy and environmental concerns. We all have a role to play when it comes to protecting our planet.
Under this environmental theme, I also want to thank our own Don Erb, PSS Vice Chair and the PSS Sustainability Committee, for organizing a shoreline clean-up of Lake LaSalle. Commencement visitors to our North Campus will see the rustic beauty of our campus waterways – without the trash that collects and hides over a Western New York Winter. A big round of thanks to all who volunteered for that clean-up project last weekend.
Election season is coming this May. Please be on the look-out for the PSS election ballots. You will elect incoming PSS senators for the next two-year term. As always, please consider running for a PSS Senate term, an Officer’s seat or volunteering as a committee member or committee chair. The PSS has committees that span the spectrum of interests – and if you have a cause or idea that we do not currently cover we can work to create a new committee for any such interests – we want to tap the many talents of our fellow UB professionals, all we need is you. Learn more about PSS committees.
As well – May is School Budget and School Board election time in our communities. Please be sure to vote in your local school district. The communities we live in are important to the fabric of our Western New York lifestyle. To those PSS members seeking public office – we wish you the best in your own local elections!
Be assured, the PSS remains active in the summer months. We hope to see you at our May (VP for Student Life – Brian Hamluk) or June (UB President Satish Tripathi) PSS General Membership meetings. As well the May PSS General Membership meeting will feature a discussion and ultimately a decision on a general reorganization of our PSS Senate areas and the representation afforded each.
Along with our remaining PSS meetings of the semester we hope to see you around campus or on the freshly cleaned Lake LaSalle, soaking up all that a well-deserved Buffalo summer has to offer.
Again – congratulations to you and yours as we wrap up this academic year – and plan for an exciting 2022-2023.
Go Bulls Go!
