"I will give thanks and praise the Lord, with all my heart; I will tell aloud all Your wonders and marvellous deeds."

Showing appreciation and being thankful for a situation that has been successfully concluded or for something you have obtained in the past is not difficult, being grateful for present blessings is equally easy, however giving thanks in difficult circumstances and also for what is hoped for in the future is totally dependent on our understanding of who God is, the trust we have in Him, and the relationship we have cultivated with Almighty God.
Philippians 4:6(AMP) says, “Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.” It is clear that petitioning and thanksgiving go “hand in hand”. Many Christians behave as if prayer is simply a matter of asking God for things, so we go to the Lord with our “shopping list”, this is a limited and inadequate view of prayer. We can see from the verse we read the Lord expects us to have requests, however we are required to apply the right formula. To enjoy and feel the tangible presence of God we must give thanks, praise, and worship Him all the time.
We should give thanks because of who God is: - John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” As children of God, we must be eternally grateful for what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross, if He does nothing else, that would be enough, just take one moment to imagine what life would be without the salvation of your soul.
To ensure we are always connected to God we have the Holy Spirit in us: John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” Is that not good reason to always give thanks?
Thanksgiving becomes part of your nature when get a true understanding of God’s love and plans for us.
Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” To have a truly thankful heart if we have a true understanding of what the Lord is telling us, the key here is to seek God wholeheartedly, we must desire to have a close relationship we God, knowing His word would be fulfilled.
Let us desire in our hearts to always show gratitude to God, by thanksgiving we acknowledge God’s goodness.
Psalm 100: 5 says “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generation. No matter how we feel, no matter what is going on in our lives, three facts never change: the Lord is always good; His mercy is everlasting: and His truth endures to all generations. For that reason, we have three permanent, unchanging reasons for thanking God.
