I had a vision. We told our photographer, Michael, about the vision. Then Kate
built a box. I showed our team
and they laughed at me! And then… the magic happened. Read ‘til the end to see the results!!!
As the CEO (and resident squirreler, visionary, and weirdo), I get LOTS of ideas in my head. Like… LOTS. Some of them are big and crazy, some are small and impactful. One of Kate’s (many) roles as our Operations Manager is to keep me and my visions in check. (Thank goodness she let this one pass the test… seriously… just wait.)
Another one of her giant roles is to encourage and strengthen our company vision and our culture.
You see, culture is HUGE for me. You may have heard me say that “I wanted to build a company that I, myself, would have wanted to work for”. I mean that from the depths of my soul. I want our team to feel EMPOWERED, AUTONOMOUS, FREE, and HAPPY. Is bookkeeping the most fun thing in the world? Well, depends on who you ask. BUT… it IS possible to be at a job where you feel supported, appreciated, and NOT MISERABLE!
Part of the culture at BBA is that we are a TEAM. I’m quite cognizant of not using that word in the buzzword-of-the-moment kind of way. I want everybody to feel like they’re PART of something great… take pride in their work… and have a voice.
In light of that (and the fact that we live all over the country), we made the decision to have an IN-PERSON retreat here in New Hampshire! We flew everybody in (and missed the hell out of Hillary) and put them in local AirBnB’s. We didn’t plan any traditional ‘team-building’ sh-tuff. I’m not super into trust falls. 😉
