Workshop on Clean Energy R&I Collaboration and Funding Opportunities
With the framework of the World Renewable Energy Congress 2016, the Network is organizing a workshop on Clean Energy R&I Collaboration and Funding Opportunities. The structure of the workshop is a combination of presentations, panel discussion and open dialogue with the attendees. EU and GCC delegates and stakeholders from academia, research and industry will provide views and useful insights on respective activities as well as on successful case studies. The workshop is scheduled for Monday 5 December 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manama, Bahrain.
Furthermore, Dr Haris Doukas, Network's Research Collaboration Specialist is an WREC17 speaker. Dr. Doukas will refer to the topic: Identifying Opportunities for EU-GCC Clean Energy Cooperation, within the “Smart Energy City” Concept.

Training Programme on Renewable Energy Sources
The EU-GCC Clean Energy Network and the Oman Power and Water Procurement company (OPWP) cooperate for the organization of a series of training seminars under the overall title ”Renewable Energy Sources Training Programme”.
The training programme primarily aims to enhance awareness and update the OPWP staff knowledge in the area of renewable energy technologies and applications as well as in main aspects of Renewable Energy economics and relevant projects’ development. The training is scheduled to take place from 11 December to 14 December 2016 in Muscat – Oman.

5th MENA Annual Summit organized by CEBC
EU GCC Clean Energy Network II is a supporter of the 5th MENA Annual Summit organized by CEBC. The conference will take place in Dubai, UAE on 14 December 2014. Frank Wouters, Network Director, will join the panel discussion on “Accessing Affordable Finance for Solar – Securing a Low Carbon Future”. 2nd EU GCC Business Forum
EU GCC Clean Energy Network II is a Partner organisation of the 2nd EU GCC Business Forum to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 9-10 January 2017. The Forum, organised by the EU GCC Business Trade and Cooperation Facility, is a continuation of the first EU-GCC Business Forum held in May 2016 in Brussels. The Business Forum will focus on infrastructure development and investment, and PPP opportunities in the GCC. Frank Wouters, Network Director will participate at the Financing the Future of the Sustainable Energy in the GCC Panel Debate which will take place on 9 January 2016. World Future Energy Summit 2017
The Network will be present at the World Future Energy Summit, an event which continues to set the agenda for a global discussion on the future of renewable energy, clean technology and sustainability. The Summit will take place at Abu Dhabi for 16 to 19 January 2017.
Specifically, Frank Wouters Network Director is a speaker in the WFES Programme, while the Network will also contribute at the WFFES workshop organized by the DG Energy on January 17th. More information regarding the Network participation will be announced soon. Information on the WFES 2017 can be found at the official Summit’s website.

Joint Meeting on Carbon Capture & Storage and on Clean Gas
The EU GCC Clean Energy Network in cooperation with The Petroleum Institute organised on November 8, a Joint Meeting for the Network's Working Groups on Carbon Capture and Storage and on Clean Gas. The event was organised in association also with ADNOC, Masdar Institute and the Clean Energy Business Council.
The event convened more than fifty (50) prominent clean energy experts for the Network’s Working Groups on carbon capture and storage (CCS) and clean gas. The Working Groups meetings included presentations and interactions with experts from ADNOC ENP, ECN, GASCO, Masdar Institute, Petroleum Development Oman, The Petroleum Institute, Total EP, and UAE University.

Training Workshop on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for the Oil and Gas industry
The EU-GCC Clean Energy Network in cooperation with The Petroleum Institute organized on November 9 a training workshop on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for the Oil and Gas Industry, which addressed mainly the topics of Energy Audits and Energy Efficiency Indicators as well as aspects of Renewables applications in the Oil and Gas Industries. The event was organised in association also with ADNOC.
Alongside with the training, fruitful contributions were provided from experts from ENERWHERE, IRENA, Qamar Energy and Shell. More than sixty (60) experts followed the workshop's sessions.

EU-GCC Clean Energy Network Team meets KSA Deputy Minister for Electricity
The Network team had a fruitful meeting with Dr. Saleh Alawaji, Deputy Minister for Electricity, KSA and Chairman of the Saudi Electricity Company, in Abu Dhabi, on October 4th, 2016. The Network team, namely Mr. Frank Wouters, Dr. Mustapha Taoumi and Dr. Ioanna Makarouni, informed Dr. Alawaji on the Network scope, working objectives and progress so far, while discussion focused on general prospects for the Network activities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Workshop on Energy Efficiency Standards and Labeling for appliances and equipment
The high-level workshop "Standards, Certification and Labeling for Equipment and Appliances: Opportunities for Collaboration" was organised by the European Commission in partnership with the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat General, and the EU-GCC Clean Energy Network. Experts both from EU and GCC countries shared their views on the topic which were fully aligned with the aim of the workshop, specifically to explore and promote opportunities for cooperation between GCC and EU in advancing the implementation of energy efficiency standards and labeling programs for equipment and appliances. Contributors included representatives from DG-Energy, CEN/CENELEC, CECED, Eurovent, SEEC-Saudi Energy Efficiency Programme, SSO, etc.

Network's Inception Meeting
The Network's inception meeting had as main objective the review of the achievements of the first phase of the EU-GCC Clean Energy Network. Furthermore, a discussion with the EU-GCC Energy Experts Group (European Commission and GCC Secretariat experts/GCC officials) and key EU and GCC stakeholders took place having as main focus the broad objective, collaboration mechanism and work plan of the second phase of the Network.

The Network at the 11th SWEDES Conference
Dr. Haris Doukas, Network's Research Collaboration Specialist, was an invited speaker at the 11th SDEWES Conference that took place in Portugal on 4-9 September 2016.
The presentation was delivered within the framework of the Special Session: Energy and Water Development and had the subject "Setting a Clean Energy Co-operation Framework between EU & GCC Stakeholders with links to the Water Sector".
