February PAW This Month!

PAW Dog of the Month: Denver

Denver is a 5 year old, 75lb Coonhound mix. He is a very handsome boy and gets lots of compliments when on walks about his look and his behavior on a leash.  He loves walks, hikes and even trail rides on bike with his person (using the gentle leader leash). He loves the sun and would do nothing all day if the sun didn’t move around. He is crate trained and will “go to his room” easily. He is potty trained and will stay in his crate from bedtime until morning!   On walks he will stop to say hi, but would rather keep walking and sniffing. He does fine in a dog park, but mostly stiffs the whole place instead of playing. He is good with older kids, not good with cats and not sure about other animals including a live-in dog. Visiting dogs are fine. Denver knows sit, stay, come, place, bang, roll over, off, walk, car ride, room, leave it is not perfect (but the picture with a poop toy on his head is a good example of him leaving it). It's fun to teach him new tricks and he really enjoys learning. He is not allowed on furniture because he gets very protective of spaces. He is food motivated which helps with training. Denver would love to exerience the best match possible, most likely a home with adults only that are willing to maintain clear boundaries.

Thank you for helping Denver find his forever home!

PAW Cat of the Month: Stevie

Stevie is a 1.5 year old, female, tuxedo cat. She has adorable white socks that match her white chest. Stevie is an independent girl who enjoys keeping an eye on her human friends. Though she may not be physically affectionate, she would love to play with you! Stevie LOVES toys. She's curious, playful, and an overall fun kitty.

Stevie would do well as the only cat in a home that is looking for a low maintenance, furry companion.

Stevie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and tested negative for FIV/FELV.

If you would like to meet Stevie via a Facetime or Zoom video call, as well as ask questions about her, please complete the application here: www.paw-rescue.org/adopt and we will be in touch.

If you have any other questions, please contact Heather at Cat-Coordinator@paw-rescue.org.

Thank you for helping Stevie find her forever home!

Upcoming Fundraising Opportunities!

How Maryland and Federal Employees Can Help PAW

Maryland Charity Campaign (MCC): is a workplace charitable giving program that offers State Employees and eligible Retirees the opportunity to contribute to charities using the convenience of payroll deduction. Currently, more than 800 charities participate in the campaign, including PAW.  If you are a MD State employee or eligible retiree and would like to donate to PAW through the MCC, please go to:  https://mcc.maryland.gov/. Thank you!

Combined Federal Campaign (CFC): About 85% of PAW expenses this year will be for veterinary care and boarding for our rescue animals. Our funding is entirely dependent on individual bequests, donations at fundraising events, the website, and the Combined Federal Campaign. CFC is the workplace charitable donation vehicle for active and retired federal employees and contractors, and represents more than 22,000 charities. We receive about 20% of our income through CFC, a 50% decline over recent years. Donations to all CFC charities are down and this year's fundraising atmosphere will be particularly challenging. If we are to continue to rescue, heal, and place animals at our current pace, we need to raise significantly more CFC funds. If you are an active or retired federal employee and would like to donate through CFC, please be sure to speak with your agency CFC coordinator. You can also ask your CFC coordinator to get us an invitation to their charity fair!  CFC events occur primarily between early October and mid-November on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you are interested in helping at one of the fairs, please contact Sanjeeta at psanjeeta@gmail.com. You do not need to be a federal employee or retiree to help at the fairs. We really appreciate your help!
