Vol. 11, January 2022
Thank you for a great 2021!

Last year was the year that study abroad returned and we couldn't have done it without you! We want to thank you — students, parents, alumni, professors, administrators, program directors and staff — for helping make study abroad a reality again. We had a staggering seven programs last summer (HUE, HUG, June HUF, July HUF, ADI, SURF and Scholars Abroad), three short programs during the month of August (HUG, HUF and HULA), and four fall programs (HUE, HUG, HUF and HIZ). We were even able to further live out our mission of helping students learn more about the world through studying abroad by hosting Oklahoma Christian's three-week study abroad program at the HUG campus in December when Austria (their program's home country) implemented a COVID shutdown.

We're proud of what we were able to accomplish in 2021 as a community and thank you all for helping make study abroad happen once again. We look forward to even greater things in 2022 and hope you'll continue to join us for the ride!

HUG kicks off Spring 2022 Study Abroad

The Harding University in Greece (HUG) group departed the US on January 12 and has spent the last two weeks settling into life in Greece. So far they've hiked "HUG mountain" in Porto Rafti, taken a walking tour of Athens and even got to enjoy a rare snowfall. The group's first trip will be to Egypt in the coming weeks. HUF and HULA will kick off their spring semesters in the coming weeks as well.

Leda Retiring

We would like to take this time to recognize Leda Carrai for her years of service at the HUF program. For the past 14 years, Leda prepared delicious meals for our students and helped maintain the Villa, making her a beloved and integral part of the program's success. She recently retired at the conclusion of the fall 2021 semester and will be missed by many. Join us in thanking her for her years of service and wishing her a happy retirement!

HUG Cook Publishes a Dessert Cookbook

You may recall the April 2021 Newsletter where we featured HUG cook, Natasa Tsirmpa's, new cookbook. Once again, we are proud to feature her newest dessert cookbook, Sweet HUG: Seasonal Desserts from Around the World. HUG alumni everywhere are rejoicing to have access to even more of their favorite Natasa recipes.

If you're interested in purchasing Natasa's new dessert cookbook, you can find it here on Amazon. You can also find her previous cookbook, HUG Through Food: A Greek Cook Feeds American Students, here on Amazon.
