A couple of weeks ago, we announced our project for expanding the Masterlist of regions. But what criteria are we using in order to allocate a specific number of regions to a country?

Up to now, NomadMania has been using 5 general criteria:

  1. Territory (Size)
  2. Population
  3. Cultural Importance (World Heritage) & Cultural Diversity
  4. Economic Significance5)
  5. Tourist Appeal (based on tourist arrivals)

Now, the Executive Committee, charged with a review of these and following long deliberations, disagreements and debates, has given their opinions with 12 criteria in 4 overall categories:

  1. Geography – 35%
    - Country size – 15%
    - Geographic Diversity Index – 15%
    - Biodiversity – 5%
    .
  2. People and Culture – 35%
    - Population – 15%
    - World Heritage Sites – 10%
    - Number of Languages Spoken – 5%
    - Ethnic Fractionalisation Index – 5%
    .
  3. History and Government – 20%
    - GDP – 5%
    - History and Governance Index – 10%
    - Human Development Index – 5%
    .
  4. Popularity – 10%
    - International Tourist Arrivals – 5%
    - Accessibility – 5%

What do these criteria mean, how are calculated and how do they affect our decisions regarding the number of regions allocated to countries?

A great NomadMania story from Accra 🇬🇭

Recently, our member Nitin Tyagi was exploring the app map while in Accra and noticed a few fellow NomadMania members nearby. He decided to reach out — and soon enough, a small meetup came together.

It turned into a wonderful, spontaneous gathering of travelers from all over the world: Emil from Poland, Kirill from Ukraine, Ketan from Ghana, and Prathmesh from India.

The afternoon was filled with stories, laughter, and the joy of new friendships — the true NomadMania spirit in action.
