Things to consider for an art exhibit.
What are some good places to show my artwork besides a gallery?
Anywhere with wall space. Remember that by exhibiting your artwork, you are providing them the opportunity to have beautiful art at no expense to them, plus it can bring them new customers and exposure.
Here's a few examples of places to show your art; Restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, furniture stores, doctor's offices, spas, salons. Consider things that could possibly damage your artwork like humidity, excessive sun, clientele, etc.
What other things do I need to consider when showing my art?
Once you've secured a spot to show, here are some of the things I make sure to have ready and in place for an exhibition.
Wall tags for each piece. You want these to be easy for customer to see. I include my website and logo, Title of work, short description, size and price .I like to print on a card stock and then mount on another sheet of colored paper for a nicer look. Grab my template HERE!
Inventory sheet spread sheet with art title, size, description, cost. I give this sheet to person after I install my artwork. Make sure your contact info is on this sheet.
Payment Options: I include an envelope with Sales slips and instructions for my payment options.
About the artist: I always include a framed flyer with some information about me, as well as ways they can connect with me on social media. I also leave business cards.
Follow Up: Have a system to collect emails and be sure to follow up with a personal thank you for customers who purchase art.
Commission terms/consignment agreement: Always have your terms typed up and have owner sign, and then present them with a copy of these terms. Ask the business owner about coverage of your art in case it is damaged or stolen. Depending on the value of your works, check with your insurance agent about the possibility coverage options in case your art is damaged or stolen.
Request a reception or options for a "pop up" while showing there; or other opportunities to collaborate and show up to help kick off your exhibit.
Decide on a cohesive collection and have a variety of price points.
Make sure your art is wired and ready to hang.
