Katy Ortega (Junior, Marketing Major) hosted prospective Marketing students and their parents at the UConn Open House last weekend. Katy focused her presentation on “Building Your Brand,” where she stressed the importance of optimizing your time at UConn in and out of the classroom to position yourself well with prospective employers for both internships and career opportunities.
Katy is from Wayne, New Jersey and was eager to share her on-going UConn journey with prospective students. On campus, Katy is involved in the Women in Business club, the Real Estate Society, the Marketing Society, and is a member of the university’s largest community service organization, Alpha Phi Omega. Since her freshman year she has held an internship with the UConn Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning as a digital marketing intern. She currently works as a Marketing Assistant for the Business School’s Program for Sales Leadership & Marketing as well. Katy spent time talking about the resonation that her study abroad experience had on her. She was fortunate enough to take part in UConn’s Summer Business in London program where she completed courses and took on an internship. "It is something I will remember for the rest of my life.”, she recalls.
Katy highlighted the importance of finding that balance between academics and outside passions. She is grateful to have been able to help give back to the UConn community by participating in the Open House and sharing what has been an amazing experience so far!
