Every September, libraries across the country join together to encourage those in their community to register for a library card. It's a great opportunity to remind parents and caregivers that signing up for a library card can be the first step toward achieving one's goals, with a foundation of literacy and a lifetime of learning ahead. Library cards can help save families thousands of dollars each year and deliver a phenomenal return on investment.
For this year's Library Card Sign-Up Month, we'll be taking a three-pronged approach: engagement in the community, on social media, and in the Library itself. Read on for details.
In the community • Farmers Market in September. • Book Bike Visits. o Terrace at River Oaks Apartments o Plaza near the 6th Ave. roundabout, in the High Expectations parking lot o Lookout at the Ridge Apartments
On social media • Library Card Sign-Up Video PSA. • Series of posts highlighting Library resources. One post per week is scheduled in advance. o Week 1: Interlibrary loan o Week 2: Checkout limit of 150 Books o Week 3: eBook/eAudiobooks o Week 4: Databases
In the Library building • Photo booth station to show off your library card. • Displays in the Library for September.
Everyone who signs up for a library card (online, in the community, or in the Library) will receive an "I got my library card!" bookmark. In addition, new registrants may draw a ticket to win a centennial tote bag.
Finally, Outreach Librarian Elliot Stapleton made this fantastic video promoting Library Card Sign-Up Month. You'll be glad you watched it!
