While the Summer holidays might be winding down, we have plenty of ideas below for exploring the region in any season. Planning a trip to Provence begins with deciding what kind of holiday you want. Our advice is to pick an option that suits your energy level and provides the right balance of cultural interest, culinary adventures, and downtime. Our partners are booking their 2023 tours now.
Wine: The Ban des Vendanges des Côtes du Rhône takes place in Avignon on Saturday, August 27th starting at 3pm. This wine-oriented event is free to the public, and festivities involve plenty of juicy fun, including a market, a parade, and a dance in the evening. All those gathered, including the winemakers, await the official proclamation by the Grand Maître de la Commanderie des Côtes du Rhône that they can start harvesting their grapes.
Water: France’s azure coastline stretches from the Spanish border to Italy. The Mediterranean shoreline, known as the littoral, offers stunning scenery and beaches. La Route des Crêtes between Cassis and La Ciotat skirts some of the highest cliffs in France, delivering endless views to anyone brave enough to drive the route. The Côte Bleue to the west of Marseille is a coast dotted with sheer cliffs, secluded coves, and gentle sandy beaches. Finally, charming Villefranche is one of our favourite places along the French Riviera; with its ready access to public transportation, and terrific walks, the options for exploring are endless.
