Tax Season 2022: Are You Ready?

Happy New Year!

2022 is the beginning of a new chapter and may bring some surprises, but we can prepare for the changes. Here are some key reminders for the upcoming season.

Be sure to look for and include with your tax documents, if applicable:

Letter 6419, 2021 Total Advance Child Tax Credit Payments, to reconcile advance child tax credit payments.

Letter 6475, 2021 Economic Impact Payment, to determine eligibility to claim the recovery rebate credit.

We can not finalize your tax return without these letters.

Informational Filings

If you made payments to non-employees in the amount of over $600 during 2021, Form 1099 -NEC, Nonemployee Compensation may need to be filed. Please reach out to our office by January 20, 2022, for timely filing.

May 2022

Tax Preparation Updates

To ensure we continue to provide the quality service our clients deserve, we are no longer accepting new tax preparation clients for the upcoming busy season.

We can file extension(s) and prepare required returns after the peak season. Please let us know if this option is desired. We may accept new clients in May 2022.

Step 1:

Submit your paper documents. Upload via secure portal or Intuit Link

Otherwise, all mail and tax document drop-offs are accepted at both offices.

Step 2:

Review preliminary return uploaded to the client portal.

Step 3:

Any questions about return(s), schedule an appointment

Book Appointment

All appointments are virtual for 2022. Confirm if you would like a phone call or virtual meeting link.

Step 4:

Sign e-file authorization signature sheets (including spouse, if applicable) via DocuSign or mail to our office and pay the invoice, electronically (sent via email).

Get An Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN)

An Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is a six-digit number that prevents someone else from filing a tax return using your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

IRS reminds individuals about deducting home office expenses.

With the recent pandemic, many are working from home. Previously, many were allowed to take advantage of these costs on their personal tax return.

"The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 suspended the business use of home deduction from 2018 through 2025 for individuals considered employees. Employees who receive a paycheck or a W-2 exclusively from an employer are not eligible for the deduction, even if they are currently working from home."
