Term 1 in Garden to Table
This term our programme has been running with the Year 4s. Each class has had a 2-week block in the garden and kitchen - learning how to grow, harvest, prepare and share food together.
In the garden …
The kids have been weeding, pruning, planting, feeding and watering the plants, and have learnt about pest control & disease management, and the importance of water in a kitchen garden. Each week they have also harvested the produce the kitchen kids have used to make delicious meals that have been shared.
In the kitchen …
A range of cooking skills have been learnt by the kids as they have followed recipes for lemon herb hummus with pita crisps, harvest pizzas (topped with capsicum, spinach and courgette), fresh corn fritters and honey cakes using the school’s own Beelicious honey. They have also been learning how to set a table and how much fun doing dishes can be!
Thanks for supporting us
We can’t run the programme without the help of the volunteers - parents, grandparents, neighbours, helping in the garden and the kitchen. We also are grateful for the fantastic support we receive from our sponsors - Matt, Trevor and the team at Devonport Hammer Hardware who provide our seeds & seedlings, plant nutrition and garden equipment; Countdown Barrys Point Road who supply us with cooking staples; and The Warehouse Milford who supply kitchen equipment.
