'My journey to becoming a Midwife'
My journey began back in 2014 when I sat my GCSE English at ATTFE College. With support from a wonderful tutor. I was able to pass the subject with a grade C.
I started my access course in 2016, and had tutors that supported my learning, especially when I was diagnosed with dyslexia whilst studying. The tutors ensured that I had access to all the support that was available so that I could ensure I achieved the grade I needed.
My goal throughout my time doing my access course was to become a midwife. The support that I received from my tutors gave me the confidence to apply for Nottingham University (rated one of the top university’s in England). Entry requirements were high, and I needed to achieve distinctions within all my modules and have GCSES in English, maths and Science.
When it came to applying through UCAS, I received support from tutors who helped me write my personal statement. When I received an invite for an interview I was over the moon. Having discussions with my tutor helped me build my confidence ready for the interview.
I then received a conditional offer. I do not think that I would be where I am without the support and structure that my access course gave me. My midwifery journey started in 2017, and I have now secured my first qualified midwifery job at Wakefield Hospital.
All I can end with is... 'Follow your dreams because they do come true with the right support.'
