The UKMTO have reported that a tanker was approached by two small craft whilst underway, 36nm Southeast of Ash Shihr, Yemen. Further information has also been received confirming that the two small craft had up to four persons onboard each boat and approached the tanker from the Yemeni coastline. Weapons were sighted and the Armed Security Team onboard the tanker fired a warning shot as the two craft came to within 300m, followed by a second shot at 200m which resulted in the craft aborting the approach and heading North. The vessel and crew are reported as safe.
UPDATE: The IMB piracy reporting centre have provided additional information that a large fishing vessel was following the two craft and is suspected of being a mother vessel.
