Dear Friends of Invisible,
You've probably noticed that we talk a lot about "One Health," and this week, I'd like to share why we do this and invite you to two upcoming events where you can learn more.
Many of you follow our organization because you have been affected by Lyme and tick-borne disease. What does One Health have to do with tick-borne disease? One Health is a structured approach that builds bridges between medical, veterinary, and climate experts. It helps us recognize the common challenges between these groups and encourages us to collaborate and learn from each other. This exchange of information is powerful for the work Invisible does. We know that diseases transmitted by ticks and other bugs are a threat to human health. Emerging science shows how the environment is impacted by climate change and deforestation, which leads to a longer tick season and geographical spread of disease. Human interactions with animals, both pets and wildlife, also affects the transmission of diseases.
Ultimately, we know that humans, animals, and the environment are all connected, and our vision for a healthier world can be better achieved if we build bridges and work together.
I want to invite you to learn more about One Health by participating in two upcoming programs:
1. Our Spring 2023 Virtual Open House: Thursday, May 4, 3:30pm ET on Zoom. We'll share information about our medical education tools and courses, and you'll have a chance to ask questions. Please RSVP here.
2. the Body + the Land: launches on May 6, 2:30pm PT, at the Albany Bulb, across the bay from San Francisco. This is a community storytelling effort that explores the links between our health and where we live. Please help us spread the word about this program. Collected audio responses to the question "How does where you live shape your health?" will be exhibited as a free, public audio walk at the Albany Bulb and made available online as a way of communicating to organizations and nonprofits interested in helping our communities thrive. This exhibit will be collecting stories for a year. Learn more and RSVP here.
Thank you for joining in this work. We look forward to meeting you at an upcoming event, and we value your partnership in our mission. We truly are all connected.
In good health,
Laura Lott, CEO Invisible International
